Stcamtthip Companies late today instituted proceedings In the Unit
ed Slates District Court here to restrain government officials from
seising either their ships of the liquor aboard high seas. The appli-
cation for the injunction after it had been opposed by assistant Unit
ed States Attorney Clarke was refused by Judge Hand who how
ever ordered the federal authorities to show cause why the order
should be granted. Argument will be heard October 18.
