ClinrAoo Aug. 5. Now that the first
shock of the collapse of thn Diamond
Match deal ia paascd there ia a general
feeling of commendation of the action
if the governiug committee in closing
the Stock Kichango. The fact that
large qnantities of the stock involved in
the deal will be held by thoae who
loaiuil njion it will proliahly prevent
the full magnitude of the transaction
becoming puhlie.
It is admitted that if the Kxchnnge
had not been closed and an attempt had
been made to carry on trading under
pri-aent cireumntancvs a panio would
surely have followed in which many
would have suffered materially and
the Diamond Match might have been
run down to 150 and the New York His-
cuit perhaps to 80 or 40. A it ia with
the coieration of tha banks and the
very rich men who are interested in the
Diamond Match deal no great sacrifice
in values occurred.
There is talk among the member of
the exchange the banker and the heavy
financiers of forming an underwriting
syndicate to take the match stock be-
longing to the pool at $170. The hanks
will not 1 losers. While they ara
ciuTvlnir larire amount of Diamond
Match stock they have secured loan
on It only np to $100 and $170 pr hare.
On New York Biscuit from $75 to $M
a han have been loaned. The tK-ks
it ia figured are intrinsically worth
these amounts and a powerful organi-
sation most likely will be perflated to
protect valiu about these figure so
that tho market will not be npirted
but it w ill I naved from bear raid.
Thi syndicate would of course have
to take np some floating atock but it i
argued thut it would not tale long to
tmprcs investment holders with the
true value of the aharea and the offer-
ing would ceao and the atock eventu-
ally seek a higln-r plan of quotation
again.
Tho real business situation of the
Diamond Match company ia not afflicted
by the failure of the Miaire. but the
foreign nominations are still pending.
Chicago hank and banker w ho hold
approximately $l(io0i0 worth of
lhamotid Match atock aa collateral ft
money loaned will not pre tho bor-
rower for a settlement. To do so would
l unwise and might precipitate panic.
The Wail street bauka are bound to
avoid such at all hasards juat now.
The losers by the collapr i of the Dia-
i mond Match and New York Hiscuit deal
j will I the Moore and the speculators
who are long on the market. The Iim
of the Monro Dm. it ia estimated U
between $40o00'i0 and $"100.000. They
sacrificed a'.l they niado in the deal
while thn ilnck were being advanced
and all they had before. It ia ruppoaod
that in Miptxirtiiig the market the
Mtm were obliged to take 4'i and M
percent of Ihe entire capital stock of
tho Diamond Match company. They
had no douW of their ability to carry
the deal through but the pnbbc on
loaded unon them to an extent Ihn
Moirm never dreamed of.

the Indian Territory and is expected to
complete its labors by December. Indl-

Sept. 10 for doing this.
General Frank C. Armstrong rx-
aaaiatant commissioner of Indiau affairs

Washington for a few day. Ho says
the prospect for an early and satisfac-
tory conclusion of negotiations w ith the
Indians for a reorganization of their
government through a division of their
lands in severalty and other measure
was never more favorable than now.
Indians he says are lieginiiing to nil-

their interest to allow reformatory

thoae who will not coucode tlua realize
that congress intends taking prompt ac-
