what Information might be attainable
as to the situation and to ascertain
w-nat measures the health authorities
Intended tak'ng In the prcmlae Th
almost universal aentlment of th

no excitement. No one expressed fear

and the anxiety felt was as to bow long
Galveston would b quarantine! its

There were any number of praun

from the men who had been In confer

acknowledged that they had not dune a
thing but talk. They bad not decided
whether the town had yellow fever and
they were not resdy to declare on the

Bome of the doctors In leaving th
office of Dr. Flaher were received with
evidences) of hostility by the crowd
There were some playful or otherwise
Idea expressed that a batb In the bay

of this doctor or that but It did not
go further than a suggeatlon.
Dr. Gulteras made the following
statement: "I hare fully communlcat
ed with th surgeon general at Wash
Ington and with the health authorities
at Galveston with Dr. Fisher and with
the mayor and have asked the surgeon
general to communicate with the state
health officer. In my report to the aur
geun general I said that there were Ave
aao of yellow fever at preeen and
that there were three case that were
convalescent or had recovered from
th disease. I have no doubt In my
mind as you know I nave been going
over th ground carefully and never
would have sal J they were yellow fever
unless I wss absolutely sure ot It. The
esse wer scattered about the city
they seem to me that they have no con
nection one with tbe other they were
mixed up with dengue fever which ex
lata her very generally at thl time.
I rsnnot tell you where these case
are that Is I do not know the names
and numbers of the streets. One la at
the Sealy hospital. 1 ih to aay

obtained an erroneous Impression
find out today that he baa no album' n

opinion aa to that rase. The other
case In the hospital with albumen In
the urine la yellow fever. Two case
In th practice of Dr. West snd three
In the practlc of Dr. Fisher two In
town and on near th cotton mills
In sll the rases I bare found what to
me appeared to be a characteristic ap
pearance of yellow fever and In all
found albumen In ths urine.
