FRIDAY.SEPT. 19 1902.
We notice that enterprising mer-
chanti in feveral neighboring
towns have arranged "rent roonii
for their lad customers that come
lo their town to trade. All modern
tonveEiences are installed in these
"rest rooms" and consequently
they are proving a drawing card
for the merchanU that have ar
ranted them. What is the matter
with some of our merchants in
augurating a "rest room" in con
nection with their store for the
comfort of the women from the
country who come to Jacksonville
to trade? Tired women often
with children in their arms can
be seen on our streets moat any
day and they have no place to rest
only in wagons a vacant chair
perhapw or any other place they
Calf find. .KoWj some merchant
should boo that theee ladies are
properly cared for while in the
city and the proper way will be to
curtain or partition oil a room in
their store. Who will be the mer
chant to first adopt the "rest
room?" We believe it will prove
a winner. Jacksonville Reformer.
On the walls of the exhibition

SMITH-EAVES.
Mr. Haiel Smith of Austin and
Mies Bettie Eaves of this city
were married in Houston Monday
afternoon and will make their
home in the capital city. The
bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Sara Eaves of this city and
was rained in Bryan. The groom
is a traveling man for a St. Louis
hardware house. They have the
best wishes of many friends of the
hridntn Rrvan. Mrs. Smith was
called home yesierday by the ill
nes of her little brother.
Beaumont is not likely to go
dry. A new irrigation company
with headquarters in that city has
been chartered for $209000.
A headline says "Bomb Wreck-
ed a Bank." Well that not so
bad as for the president or cashier
to do it.
The newspaper reports indicate
that the Palestine Carnival has
been a marvelous success.
The man who feeds hogs next
year will be ahead of the fellow
who feeds boll weevils.
