Prof. Nathan Powell college chap-
lain and professor of languages is
not inclined to let either language
or theology absorb all his time and
attention. He is a lover of good
horses and has recently purchased
one of the finest stallions ever seen
on the college grounds. The horse
is German Hanoverian and Olden-
burgh coach horse Fernando No.
3703 with a pedigree as long as
the best of them. The stock was
established in 1592 and is the old-
est strain of purebred horses in the
world. The stock is noted for sio
action speed quality and fixidness
of typ;. Fernando's sir? Freiherr
No. 1 107 was awarded a 900 mark
prize for excellence by the German
Government and also won second
place in the great horse show at
Paris France.
Fernando is deep bay in color
with black points and is 3 years
old. He was raised in Ostfreisland
Germany whence he was brought
to this country in March by Ot-
mann Bros of Watseka 111. and
Fort Worth. The horse is valued
at 13000 and will probably make
the season here.

DEATH OF MR. HENRY STEWART.
Mr. Henry Stewsrt who was
aliout thirty-two years old died at
his home in the Kurten community
yesterday morning at an early
hour from pneumonia. He was a
nephew of Uncle Watt Stewart and
reared in Brazos county. His wite
who was a daughter of Mr. H. G.
Dixon of this city died some time
ago and he leaves one child. He
was a brother of Mr. Jim Stewart
of Benchlcy and also leaves three
sisters Mrs. Jack Lawless of Kur
ten Mrs. Nannie Hammond of
Abilene and Mrs. John Hammond
of Bell county. The funeral took
place yesterday afternoon.
