nor to Itryan Tuesday night and
spent the follow ing forenoon nn etltig

senator is well known here and he
spent the morning very pleasantly re-

BAD FIRE AT HIOHBANK.
Small Town South of Marlin Practi-
cally Destroyed Yesterday
Morning.
A wire received yesterday after-
noon stated that fire originating at
11:30 a. m. in a store owned by Wil-
liam Truett. a negro had practlrally
destroyed the small town of High-
bank situated on the 1. ft G. N. rail-
rond this side of Marlin. Two eating
houses belonging to llolston & Wash-
li.gton and Truett Brothers colored:
two seed bouses owned by the Mar-
lin Oil company and the Industrial Oil
company of Waco were consumed
and the stock pens cotton platform
and depot of the 1. ft O. N. were bad-
ly damaged. Four or five negro houses
vere also burned. The loss Is est!

NCVrFIRM ANNOUNCED
Announcement was made yesterday
of the formation of the new business
firm of Brandon ft Lawrence compos-
ed of G. M. Brandon and T. K. I .aw-
retire and to engage exclusively In
the gents' furnishing business. The
building at present the location of
Wilson & Derden has been secured
and on the first of September will be
occupied with a full and extensive line
of goods. Mr. Brandon the senior
partner left yesterday at noon for
New York where he goes to purchase
the stock for the opening. Both gen
tlemen are well known throughout this
section and possess such excellent
business qualities and thorough exper-
ience as to practically Insure the suc-
cess of the new enterprise.
PIONEER CITIZEN DEAD.
The extended Illness of B. H. Pev-
erley pioneer citizen 01 Brazos coun
ty third degree Mason and octogenar-
ian was brought to a sad termina-
tion when death occurred Tuesday
night at 9 o'clock at the family home
In MUllcan. News of his demise was
not received here until yesterday
morning.
Interment was observed in the aft
einoon at 2 o'clock in the Millican
cemetery the funeral and burial be-
ing conducted according to the ritual
of the Masonic lodge.
Deceased was 65 years of age and
bad been a resident of Millican since
P"i8 excepting one year spent at Nav-
asota. At the former plnce he en-
gaged In fhe mercantile business for
a number of years. Mr. Peverley was
a third degree Mason anil had been
past master of the Millican Bryan and
Weilborn lodges. He was a native of
Massachusetts in which Mate rela-
tives reside.
Surviving are a son H E. Peverley;
three daughters Mrs. William Lamb-
kin of Waco Mrs. A. C. Steele of Nav-
asota. Mrs. George F. Woodall of Mil
lican. nnd four grandchildren Wallace1
rnd Harry Peveiley and Misses Mat-
tie and Helen 1'iviiley of Brvan.

W. D. 8ELLERS AMONG DEAD.
News of the death of Mr. W. D. Sel-
lerrs at his home in the Bethel com-
ni'inlty late yesterday afternoon was
received in town last night and prov-
ed a severe shock to his friends and
ncqmilntanci's here inasmuch as his
serious condition was not known. Mr.
Sellers had only been sick since Mon-
day. Icath Is attributed to appendi
citis which probably developed sud-
denly in an acute form.
Deceased was a substantial farmer
rnd a well known and likeil citizen of
the county.
He Is survived by a wife and sev-
eral children.
Arrangements have been made to
have interment this afternoon In the
Bethel cemetery.

YARRELTON MEETING CLOSED.
Hev. J. A. Challe'tiner has just dos-
ed a successful week s revival at the
Yarrelton Christian church from
which -t additions to the church re-
sulted. The church was reorganized
officers ordained anil a Sunday school
established. Music was conducted
throughout by L. D. Parnell who sang
in the recent Bryan meeting. On July
31 Rev. Challenner will open a camp
meeting at San Gabriel.
