member my friend Major 1). S. Hart
asked me what a "Wampus" was at
that time I did not know hence I ask-
ed you. You fearing you could not
give a good description referred the
matter to Sheriff Jno. U. Conlee who
explained to Maj. Hart Just what a
"Wampus" was. Under separate
cover I am sending you one of our
daily papers with an account of "a
wampus." Now I am sure this must
be one that left the Navasota bottoms.
Show this to Sheriff Conlee and Maj.
Hart and 1 am sure he will again
