FIRE IN.THE COUNTRy

Bond Horrntii Prospect.
Fire came near' ilestroying the re-
sidence of Mrs. S. A. Bond in the
Prospect community situated some
10 miles north of Bryan Thursday
morning at 3 o'clock.
The fire and Its consequent damage
resulted from placing ashes in which
there were live coals. In an ash box
and leaving the box In the house.
The dining room and kitchen were
destroyed entailing a loss of some
$2iK. No Insurance was carried.
Through the heroic efforts of Mrs.
Bond's sons Tom and Ashley the
flames were gotten tinder control and
the largest portion of the house was
saved.
NO WONDER THERE'S A VACANCY
In the bulletin book at a local rail-
way station Is pasted the following
memoranda:
Mart All train men: This Is to ad-
vise you that we must have 705 reports
covering accidents that demand them
within at least three days after ac
cident occurs. We are going to quit
taking this matter up by letter. It
Is just as necessary for you to send
In 705 reports and you must send them
in without us having to write for
them."
Immediately following this bulletin
is another announcing a vacancy on
this run for one brakeman and re-
questing those who are in line for
Same and want the run to apply with-
in ten days.
In District Court.
Four pleas of guilty to burglary
charges were recorded in the District
Court yesterday. In each case the
delinquent was given two years.
Since there were only two defendants
each drew four years as a punishment
for his error. These same young men
were convicted in Belton. Caldwell
and Waco on similar charges and ad-
ding the Braios county term to those
already given makes a total of
twentT-tbree years each will be re
quired to serve in the penitentiary as
punishment for their mistakes.
