members of Protection Fire Com-
pany No. 1 made a run at 8:30
o'clock Monday night to the resi-
dence of Mrs. B- White situated
in the northeastern portion of the
city. The burning out of a tlm
caused the turning in of -a fire
alarm and the promptness wiih
which the men responded and
reach-d the scene with their firt-
lighting equipment was remark-
able. Fortunately there was no
necessity for them to throw a
stream of water but they were
promptly on the spot and ready
had it become needful to do so.

A Drop in Temperature of About 5&
Degrees in a Few Hours.
A very decided change In temper
at ure was experienced here in the
time elapsing between midnight Sun
day ami Monday morning. Sunday
was hot and the mercury in the ther-
mometers Indicated about 74 degrees.
In the evening many families sat on
their front verandas enjoying the
cool of the twilight hour; the fra
grance of the rose was in the air and
the breath of summer softly swayed
the tapestries Inside the open window.
Monday morning was different about
:.C degrees different. Well not n
much as that to beirin with tint at
I o'clock a small thermometer in front
of Haiueirs recorded 16 1-2 degrees

True some pupils are failing on ex-

Out teachers generally are gaining
in the ability to suit their Instruction
to the comprehension of the children
and to inspire the children to do Hie
work required.
Comprehension and Inspiration.
If these two words indicate your
child's attitude with regard to school
and school work you may rest as-
sured that the teacher has received
a baptism of the professional spirit
and your child is safe.
The lack of these two essentials In
any grade means trouble in that
grade and in the next.
"This one thing I do" said St
Paul and that is our motto. School
gets our entire attention.

Buchanan & Cloud Have Made a Mar-
ket for the Small Stockman.
Attention is directed to the ad of
Mesrs. Buchanan & Cloud in this Is-
sue of the Eagle. Thete men are
butchers and stockee.lors and ship-
pers and are doing a valuable work
for this section in furnishing a mar-
ket at all times to the small stockman
and farmer for his surplus cattle or
bogs or other butcher stock. The
farmer who raises two or three head
of cattle more than he needi is situ-J
ated somewhat as the potato raiser
with only a few bushels surplus. He
can't afford to ship to market be-
cause the price of transportation on
less than a car load is too high.
Buchanan & Cloud are In the mar-
ket for everything in the butcher
stock line a man has to sell whether
It be one head or a hundred. This
stock is fed here at their feeding pen3

tneir pens now and are In the mar-
ket for more. They are making it
profitable for the farmer to raise a
few surplus head of stock where here-
tofore the profit In so doing would
have been doubtful.
