'"Only Million Dollar Companies Represented."
Miss 1 'attic Cassiday of Waco
who has been visiting with Dr.
and Mrs. S. L. Ingham lias gone
to Julia where she will visit
friends for a week or more be-
fore returning to her home.
The Frenchman wants it for
his bread and such bread. The
workman will eat a foot of his
crusty durum loaf and then wash
it down with a pint ordinary and
thats his noon-day lunch. He
goes back to his job satisfied and
works the rest of the afternoon.
The Italian calls for more and
more of our durum wheat every
year because it is the best au
tumn wheat produced in the
world today better than they
grow in Russia and that means
superfine macaroni. Between
these two our sixty-million-bush
el crop of 1908 dwindles and
leaves very little for our domestic
macaroni makers and our millers
who are learning what a good
thing durum Hour is to brace up
weaker Hours and put them in
the tirst class.
We need more durum; three to
four times what we are growing.
China is knocking at our door
for durum wheat.
I quote from the United States
Department of Agriculture Bul-
letin No. 70:
"Aside from the export outlet
for durum wheat either in the
form of the wheat itself or asem-
inola in France and Italy for the
production of macaroni there
are without question still other
outlets at present not at all con-
sidered by grain dealer or mill-
ers. In a number of foreign
countries where bread of a rich
flavor is desired without regard
to color durum wheat (lour will
be very popular. This no doubt
will be particularly true in these
districts of the Far East where
there has been unusually rapid
development in recent years.
The increase in wheat product-
ion in Manchuria and the very
large increase in Hour production
in the same country instead of
injuring our flour trade in the
Orient may by educating the
I native population to the use of
wheat bread so increase the
demand for such a product as to
really benefit the trade in this
country. Present conditions
seem to indicate that this is
quite likely to be the correct
view Should the Chinese and
Japanese and other oriental peo-
ples become fully acquainted
with the use of wheat bread the
export outlet for American flour
and particularly the ffour made
from this class of wheat would
be for a time practically unlim-
ited. It would seem therefore
to be greatly to the interest of
the millers and grain dealers to
give special attention to the
encouragement of the production
of durum wheat in all our unde-
veloped semi-arid areas.
It is evident now that its in-
crease in production is of just as
great importance to millers and
shippers as it is to the farmer.
The future of wheat that will
grow on unirrigated land with
only ten or twelve inches of rain
fall and that will produce such
Hour as durum wheat produces
needs only to be better known to
be appreciated.

OCCUPY CHURCH BUILDING.
Methodist Congregation Use Their Remodeled
Building for First Time.
There was a remarkable meet-
ing at the Methodist church in
this city last Sunday morning
when there were iu new mem-
bers added at the one service
alone and at the evening ser
vices additional numbers were
added. This was the tirst meet-
ing held in their new church
building and it was an auspicious
house warming.
For some time the builders
have been at work remodeling
this building changing the front
making additions and overhaul-
ing the inside until now it is one
of the largest and most conven-
ient churches in any of the
smaller towns of the west. New
pews have been added and the
inside retinished and the appear-
ance of the building both inside
and out has been very materially
improved. The members of that
church have a right to feel proud
of their new church home.
