Klemming 'another of the Newton
merchants 1ms also made arrange-
ments to move to Roganville. The
work on the Hooker Bros saw mill is
progressing nicely; the site has been
selected and preparatory work for the
building of another new mill which is
to be put in there started. So great
has been the demand for houses that
the mill men thisfe have let the con-
tract for the construction of about 100
cottages which are to be completed in
a very short length of time. Mr. Hain
was accompanied on this trip by En
gineer Weed.

A dispatch from Minneapolis says
that unless a heavy rain speedily vis-
its the Cass Lake region the fires
now rioting in the "toppings" will ex
tend to tho standiug timber inflicting
losses which will run Into the tens of
millions of dollars. The fire Is con
fined to the stumpage and boughs the
old cuttings of the past two winters.
Minneaolis log owners are greatly
alarmed. Everything Is as dry as
tinder. Mr. J. Scanlon of tho Scanlon
Gibson Lumber company said this
morning that a teA-ible fire was rng-
Ing south and west of Cass Lake. His
advices stated that the citizens of Cass
Lake are making great efforts to pro-
tect the town by "back filing." Mr.
Scanlon says there has been a great
deal of property destroyed In the re-
gion west of Cass Iike and extending
bark about twenty five miles to the
west and northwest and propably II r
ty miles on the HimthwKct. The
streams have dried lip and everything
favors n most disastrous forest lire.
