A Frontier Drama.
Feeding thirty thousand peo-
ple at a prairie dinner is no
small matter even in these days
vet this is what was done by the
owners of the "101" ranch in
Oklahoma Sunday. The butfa-
lo hunt aud other features of the
"Wild West" show including
the care and feed for 5C00 In-
dians and hundreds of cowboys
who participated is said to have
cost the Miller Brothers own-
ers of the ranch the sum of
?1 0000.
This one of if not the big-
gest entertainment of the char-
acter ever given is in all likli
hood the last of its kind and
with it closes the semblance of
frontier scenes in which the
chief actors were important
parts of the great original
drama.
The chapter of reality on the
Western frontier with its roman-
tic daring and dash its hard-
ships and its chivalry was clos-
ed years ago and now barring
a tew grey haired people noth-
ing but its nistory remains with
us. But those now living wLo
formed a part of this history
will never no never forget its
associations and those yet to
follow many generations
hence will take delight in its
material parts when they are
touched up and converted into
romances by writers yet unborn.
Yes we may well say that the
big "blowout" at the "101"'
ranch closes a drama in which
the last parts of the "real
tbing"appeared in force.

FROM CAPTAIN BOBBITT.
Quality Counts
The old adage that blood will
tell is as true today as when
first spoken. Quality has al-
ways counted and at no time
was it worth more than it is to-
day. Quality counts in the horse
and cattle markets. Look over
the records and you will observe
that pound weight it frequently
brings more than double money
over scrub products.
Quality is here to stay and
the horse mule and cattle raiser
that bitches on to this truth and
pulls the strongest in his prac-
tice is going to be the man who
in the future can wear diamonds
on bis sbirt front.
And there is no better time to
cinch on to this quality idea
' than right now. Get good
blood the best to be had to im-
prove your stuff as soon as pos-
sible and before prices advance.
If you must hang on to the ring- j
streaked speckled piled and
limebacks of Jacob's time by all
means let the other half of the
herd the bull be one of to-
day's thoroughbreds.

Editor Canyon City News:
Through the medium of your
paper I desire to call the atten-
tion of Confederates and all
others to the fact that the sixth
annual reunion of the Camp of
The Stonewall Jackson United
Confederate Veterans Associa-
tion will take place at Canyon
City Texas July 11th 1905 and
continue four days; each day's
program will be replete with in-
teresting engaging and attrac-
tive features beyond that here-
tofore attempted at our former
reunions. Among which will be
parades of cowboys fraternal
societies and Confederate Vet
erans baloon ascensions base
ball games tine stock shows
agricultural exhibits and etc.
showing the advancement de-
velopment richness and advan-
tages of our beautiful and fa
mous region of the Panhandle
ot Texas which with outstretch-
ed arms solicits and summons
all to attend see and fall in
love (as all do who see it) with
this lovely rich and health giv-
ing section. I call especial
attention to the fact that
speeches will be made by Con-
federate Veterans and other dis-
tinguished Texans come one
come all enjoy and add to the
enjoyment of this great occa-
sion. A remnant of the grey
battalions of the South's im-
mortal army will be there the
counterpart and duplicate in
principle and in action in peace
and in war of the re-nowned and
glorious army of the sublime
and majestic Washington.
The Confederate soldier like
the patriots of 1770 fought for
home and for the best and high-
est form of local self-govern-ment
constitutional liberty and
equal rights ever conceived by
the mind of man and with a
bravery and self-sacrifice and
devotion to duty never excelled
and on fame's plane of honor
places him by the side that of
the patriots of 1770. C'me and
meet with them few remain
time is tbining their ranks and
will soon claim them all and
leave them onlv a historic and
sacred memory. See them and I
greet them while you can and
learn from them the history of
the times and stirring events and
scenes through which they
passed and drink in from their
lips the spirit of freedom and
equal right that actuated them
in ltSOl and the fathers of 1770.

In a letter from Judge Buie
who is attending the General
Assembly of the Cumberland
Presbyterian church in session
at Fresno California received
this week he says that the
union measure carried by a vote
of 137 to 110. The Judge says
farther that the opposition will
stay with the cnurch in the
union. This is a matter ot great
satisfaction to those who have
favored the union ot these great
churches. Stamford News.

The Man Behind the (inn.
It has been said that Napo-
leon upon hearing of the victo-
ry of Jackson at New Orleans
with his handful of American
soldiers over the veterans of
the British army who had con-
quered him sent to America for
the purpose of obtaining sam-
ples of the guns that had
wrought such havoc among
General Packenham's forces in
that great battle but when his
messenger returned stating
that the weapon used was the
ordinary llint-steel hunting ri fie
of the American frontiersmen
he exclaimed: "I see how it is;
it was not the guns but the men
behind the guns. Had I such
soldiers as these I could con-
quer the world." It seems
then that Napoleon was the
real author of this famous
phrase. The Earth.
