Last Thursday's excursion
brought in five prospectors for
local men and three for Tulia.
It is claimed that some deals
are on toot and near the closing
part but The News so far lias
not been fortunate in securing
the details.
Sunday L. T. Lester and wife
left for Dallas from whence with
the "Bankers' excursion" they
will poceed to the Exposition at
Portland Oregon and from there
to the Yellow Stone Park and
other points of interest in the far
Northwest returning home in about
two weeks.
There has been a steady growth
about Canyon City this spring
The population has increased;
every good house in town is occu-
pied and four new ones are now in
process of construction and three
more new ones to "begin at once"
being talked of. In addition to this
many other signs of progress such
as new fences trees and shrubbery
paint etc. engage the eye on
every side.
J. H. Green of Kingston Hunt
county was here prospecting Fri
day and Saturday. Conner seem
ed to have him in tow. Sunday
he went South expecting to again
visit us in a few days. He desires
to trade a stock of dry goods in
Hunt county for Plains land.
Last year some of our Eastern
exchanges ridiculed The News ac-
counts of vegetable growths on the
Plains. It was strongly hinted
yea even stated by some of them
that our big melons beets turnips
and other such like stuff were
wholly creations out of genuine
Munchausen cloth And now what
will these same incredulous folks
say when they have it on undoubt
ed authority that hen eggs yes
just ordinary hen eggs here some
times attain a size of 6x9 inches
in diameter. Our authority for
this is Geo. C. Long. Everybody
knows of George and what he says
and is willing to swear to is always
taken without question. One of
the eggs the product of of a black
Minorca and of the size given Mr.
Long has had boiled to preserve
it and is ready at any and all times
to exhibit it to any doubting
Thomas.
H. C. Williams formerly in the
barber business here returned last
Friday to his old home Wills Point.
His "pantry" experience for Tom
Rowan in the Silverton country
was "nix" in so far as returns
went.
