THE YOUNG TURKS.
The wonderful works
Of the Young Turks
Elicit our admiration.
They hang and shoot
And electrocute
Men of every rank and tatlon.
The fool and the sage
Of every age
Who opmse the count Itut ion.
And this Is quite
Proper and right;
And the easiest solution
Of a troublesome question;
it relieves congestion
And eliminates competition.
North Texas is richer by at least
15000000 than it was day before yes-
terday. The rain did it.

That the general appropriation bill
needs pruning there are few who will
deny and If Governor Campbell uses
the hatchet widely anil without favor
he can chop off several luxuriant wat-
ersprouts. Home astronomer deny that life Is
jo.4siblo on Mars because the tem-
perature Is too cold and eiie atmos
phere too rare. Hut experience has
shown that when scientists reason by
analogy they often reach erroneous
conclusions. For Instance a genera-
tion ago students of geography were
taught that It was imimsslble that
there could be organic life In the
abysmal depths of the ocean because
the pressure is too great.

Fang the Chinese ambassador said
his countrymen are not a warlike peo-
ple because under the educational sys-
tem the people are thoroughly Indoc-
trinated with the ethics of Confucius
and Meucius which make for Hace.
It is a pity the people of professedly
Christians nations do not Include the
ethics of the Sermon on the Mount
In their syste mof education.
Rarely if ever before have the crop
prospects been so promising at this
season as they ere now. The crop
are mostly clean the cultivation up
to this time requiring less labor than
usual on account of the fine weather
condtions and it has not been neces-
sary to employ much extra help. A
good crop of corn Is already assured
anl another good rain will make It a
bumper. It Is too early yet to figure
on cotton but It look fine now. Pnr-

Among the renditions adopted by
the commercial secretaries In their
convention at l:ill;n Is one complain
ing that 'there is much unwarranted
prejudice In other states against the
Texas laws relating to capital." This
Is true and the ccuumerc lal secretar-
ies are almost entirely rsMinslbl for
this prejudice. They have shouted

ELKS VS. ALLENS.
A rattling good game of ball was
played yesterday afternoon on the
Academy grounds between the Elks
team and the Academy. It was the
first match game the Elks have play-

considering the short time they have
been organized. The Academy boys
were too strong for thein however and
the victory went to the Academy by
the score of S to 5.

As I walked down the street
Where the birds sang sweet
And the trees overhead
Wove a shade with the thread
Of their young green leave
While the wind-shutters flew
In a pattern of blue.
All. what do you think
Mind my eye how they blink!
What else could I do.
But think think think
Think of you!
Every gle-ain of the beam
Of the sun in the dream
Of the sweet May morn
'Mid the bramble and thorn
Brought a thought of Joy
In the he-art of a boy
When the barefoot way
Of his glad yesterday
ld him down
Through the town
To the crick and the hill
And the pond and the mill.
And the wen id and the ghn
And back again
To the green sweet path of the bloom
bright May!
Every betid of the road
Every catblrii's abode.
Every winged minstrel's merry
Serenade to the cherry.
Each breath of the hour
Of the morn on the flower
Brought again to the street
The idd lad in the sweet
Of the playtime and Maytime
Of yon's far away time;
And I saw them go out.
With a leap and a shout
To youth's chaplet of grace
The oIl loved swimming place!
All the birds that I heard
Sang your name. In a wot J;
Every bough every vine
Brought the boys down the line
I.Ike a phantom parade
'Neiith the sweet maple shade;
Ah. what do you think
Mlticl my eyes how they blink!
What else could I do
But think. think ttil.nk
Think of you!
