Prof. R. L. Bennett Glvea Experience
As to Probability of Their
Coming Out.
lrof. It. L. Bennett formerly of the
A. and M. College now of Parla baa
written Mr. J. Webb Howell relative
to the probability of crops "coming
out" that have suffered from hall
storms. Prof. Dennett Is authority on
the subject and his letter which fol-
lows will no doubt prove of interest
Just at this time:
Paris Texas. Mar 27. 1003. Mr.
J. Webb Howell Bryan Texas Dear
Mr. Howell: I see In tbe paK-rs that
you have bad a storm that did much
damage to crops. If you bad much
hall that beat off tbe tops of the
cotton leaving no bud It will of
course not come out but If the bud
Is left and pieces of the leaf the cot-
ton will come out allrlght exetally
where fertilized. That Is the way
half of our crop was reft and is com-
ing out. If tbe corn Is not beginning
to tassel although tbe leaves may be
riddled. It will come out and make
practically a full crop. I am writing
tbli as my exierlence and as you
have Just bad your storm these facta
may help you out a little mentally. I
would not be dlHsed to repl.t cot-
ton where there Is much left but
would sow (rolled) seed In the miss-
ing places In front of a cultivator or
plow and cover the seed that way
and they ll come up when It rains
and niakHomeihlng. Yours truly .
R. L. Bennett.

More hall fell In Braioa county yes
terday afternoon but It was not any-
thing to compare with the tearful
etorm of last Tuesday afternoon. The
cloud came from the northwest about
2 o'clock In the afternoon and Its con-
stant roar caused the people to feel
nervous aa It aounded very much like
tbe one of last week. There was a
large rain which was general very
nearly all over the county and Insures
sufficient moisture to finish the corn
crop.
The ball was heaviest in the Camer
on ranch neighborhood and extended
for several miles across the country.
The corn and cotton were pretty bad-
ly beaten up but parties In from there
today state It was not seriously dam
aged. Serloua storms cyclones and
halls are reported from all over the
country and if we can but escape wifn
the damage already received .we may
count ourselves fortunate Indeed.
