participate In this "Christmas offer-
ing" and the little fellows have al-
ready entered fully into the spirit of
the occasion and their little eyes
fairly sparkle as they discuss their
plans to see how much they can do
for the poor little tots who have no
one to do for them.
The entire plan and motive of this
new departure is splendid and Its
beneficent influence will be felt in all
the future of each participant. Each
will be imbued with the Christ spirit
of giving rather than receiving of
helping rather than being helped.
When the world is filled with this
blessed spirit when we are fully
awakened to our opportunities there
will be food and clothing and warmth
for every little orphan in all the earth.
There will be a strong grasp of love
and sympathy and tenderness for
every little outstretched hand! Much
of the woe and misery and suffering
of this earth will be removed and all
tears wil be wiped away.
Fifty-one convicts will eat Christ-
mas dinner at home through the
mercy of Governor Colquitt's pardon-
ing power. "There was greater joy
in heaven over the one that was lost
than the ninety and nine that went
not astray."
President-elect Wilson says he is
going to cut out the "handshaking."
Good. Now let us cut out the "leg-
pulling" for campaign contributions
and we'll be getting back toward
"safe and sane" first principles.

GIVING BETTER THAN RECEIVING
The Presbyterian Sunday school
proceeding on the text from holy writ
that "it is more blessed to give than
to receive" will reverse the order of
gift giving this Christmas. Instead
of the usual tree laden with presents
for the children they will make a
great Christmas donation for the lit-
tle orphans in the Presbyterian or-
phanage at Files Valley. The chil-
dren as well as the older people will
Bryan'B school buildings in compar-
ison with the prosperous North Texas
towns of Bryan's class look like
"thirty cents." Now somebody get
mad and say we are knocking the
town. The only way we know how to
impress conditions is to show wherein
we fall short. We know that com-
parisons are "odorous" and that the
truth hurts so does the surgeon's
knife butjtjs necessary. If all were
satisfied with present conditions
there would be no further progress.
The wheels would stop stone still.
The Eagle believes it to be its mission
to create dissatisfaction with condi-
tions that need correcting and we
hope to be able to do it until we get
the wheels of progress to making a
thousand revolutions a minute.
If all will see to it that every gift
package and every letter that goes
out bears a Red Cross seal it will be
helping in a great cause.
The schools have closed for the hol-
idays. Now let's all get busy and help
the precious little children have the
time of their lives.
