THE 8ULZER CASE.
One thing stands out in all the
manifestations in favor of Governor
fiulrer. They are intensely anti-
Murphy. It is not that Sulzer is ad-
mired and trusted but that Murphy
ia detested and feared. In the face of
the grave charges against Governor
Sulzer. which are so strongly evi
denced and which he has not met in
a way at all satisfactory he could
hardly have a friend or at any rate
a defender in the State were it not
for one circumstance. That circum
stance is named Murphy. Hatred of
him almost takes on the guise of love
of Sulzer.
It is an extraordinary phenomenon.
Men are writing letters to the press
and talking to each other on the
v street who completely admit the
worst that is alleged against Sullzer
yet who in the same breath declare
that he ought to be supported simply
because Murphy is fighting him. "If
you would rise" was the advice of
an old politician to a beginner "make
for yourself enemies." But the most
skilled practitioner in politics could
scarcely have been prepared for the
remarkable demonstration of the
- value to William Sulzer at this polit-
ical Juncture of Charles P. Murphy's

i Precisely the same conditions exist
in Bryan. Main street is filled to
overflowing and the side streets are
crowded for several blocks out into
the residence districts. Where it will
end or how it will end the Lord only
knows. The teams have got to stand
somewhere and if not in the street
where? The first thing to do Is to is
to provide a place for them and thin
is one of the big problems confront-
ing the City Council. Not only that
but the longer it Is noBtponed the
bigger it will get. The Eagle would
not appear impertinent or officious In
the matter but would respectfully
suggest to the Council that it begin
at once the consideration of the prob-
lem of "How to get the teams off the
streets."

BAPTIST ACADEMY OPENING
Exercises In Academy Chapel Tues
day Morning at 10 o'Clock.
The "Dark Hole" of Calcutta has
been transferred to Texas. The
smothering to death of eight negro
convicts in the "dark cell" on the
Harlem State farm Saturday night Is
a fitting climax to the Colquitt Y. M.
C. A. plan of conducting the State's
penal Institutions. He will not permit
punishment with the "bat" that is
too cruel just stick them In the
"Dark Hole of Calcutta" and smother
the life out of them that's easy.
At one of the seaside resorts near
' New York a bevy of ladles disrobed
in their automobile and donned their
hathing suits in full view of thou
sands of spectators. At which The
Eagle editor is not surprised and
against which he does not raise his
voice. Bless the dear ladies what-
ever suits them certainly ought to
suit the men.
The mud on Main street today as
a result of yesterday's shower was a
small foretaste of what It will be this
winter if the paving work Is not done.
The reason there Is a scarcity of
army aviators is because they are
killed faster than new recruits can
be secured.
