Reported That Ninety Per Cent Were
Destroyed en North Side of
Island of Jamaica.

New York Aug. 21. The hurricane
which awept recently over the West
Indies de-froyed 90 per cent ot the
banana trees on the north side of the
Island ot Jamaica according to offi-
cers ot the steamship Commodore
Rollins which arrived today. The
ateamer brought a large cargo of ba-
nanas which were not from the trees
affected by the wind.

over Eastern Indiana and Western
Ohio haa moved beyond the limits of
the United States. It probably swept
Lake Erie and Ontario and moved
down the 8L Lawrence valley In the)
last forty-eight hours. A shallow ba-
rometric depression which Is now
central over Northern Wisconsin ex
tenda south aouthwestward toward
Oklahoma and waa attended by shove
ers and thunder storms in the upper
Mississippi and lower Missouri val-
leys and In the northwestern and
middle portions ot the cotton belt.
Fair weather waa reported however
from most sections of the cotton belt.
In Texas precipitation occurred only
at about 8 per cent of the reporting;
stations. '
