TEST OF COTTON LAW
IS "PLOWED UNDER"
EDINBURG — Joe Holmes re-
fused to plow up his cotton by
Sept. 1, as required by the pink
boll worm regulations. Instead
he dared the state to punish him.
Last week a large crowd of farm-
ers gathered in court to hear his
trial on contempt charges. Holmes
lawyers, however, spent most of
the day convincing him that he
ought to apologise to the court
and comply with the law. So he
took their advice, apologized for
his actions, paid a $100 fine,
and hurried home to plow up his
cotton.
