County Agent
Suggests Menu
For T'giving
Thanksgiving Day transforms
most homes from the normal quiet
of routine into a whirl of festivi-
ties and a place of good cheer
for friends and neighbors. The
family, of course,' is of major
concern and plans for the day
should be shaped with first thou-
ght for the satisfaction and hap-
piness of its members but, with
a liberal reserve of hospitality
for friends. Well laid plans as-
sure a pleasant and relaxed
hostess.
Irene P. Odom, County Home
Demonstration Agent, says that
in assembling food for the day a
homemaker can be budget-wise
and still serve inviting and de-
licious meals. She suggests se-
lecting from the plentiful foods
which usually are the least ex-
pensive. For instance, carrots,
cucumbers, egg plant and honey
are available in quantity during
November.
Thanksgiving planning com-
mences with sunrise. A good,
but light breakfast is first in or-
der. A satisfying menu would
consist of sliced orange, oatmeal
enriched with brown sugar and
cream, toasted honey nutbread
and marmalade. The agent sug-
gests that a buffet style meal
would simplify the pleasant chore
of serving breakfast guests.
Scrambled eggs and link sausage
along with delicate sweet rolls,
grapes and other fruits may be
arranged on an attractive china
and guests serve themselves.
But — keep the food hot and the
coffee fresh.
I Now the dinner — the highlight
of the festive day. The agent re-
minds, however, that although
the turkey is symbolic of the
American Thanksgiving day, duck
and chicken also are appropriate.
Food markets have a free select-
ion of poultry — fresh, iced or
quick frozen for your choice.
Plan a Thanksgiving which you
and your family can enjoy and
be thankful for.
