Scouting is strong all over
America because strong men
believe in it and give it active
leadership. Mr. Paige, Presi-
dent of the First National Bank
of Akron, has been President
of the Community Chest. He is
on the Board of the Children's
Hospital, and is a Trustee of
the Westminster Presbyterian
Church. He has been on the
Executive Board of the Akron
Area Council for fifteen years,
and its President for the past
three years.

I feel that Scouting is a force for freedom.
To me, Scouting is a creature of liberty and the
essence of freedom and democracy. Boys join Scouting
because they want to, and can leave it when it fails to
interest or challenge them. They participate in Scout-
ing activities and advance in Scouting ranks as their
interest and opportunities afford. Scouting is not reg-
imentation. It provides and requires personal deci-
sions and individual enterprise. In Scouting, boys ex-
perience life situations on an elementary scale.
Scouting leadership and service by adults is also
voluntary. It gives a man a feeling of satisfaction in
doing a worthy task because he wants to, not because
he has to. Also it represents a selective process, in that
