"What we need" he said oracu-

more statesmen."
j She looked at him admiringly
as if wondering how one man
could know so much.
"What's the difference between
a statesman and a politician Ed-

"The difference?'' he exclaimed.

"But I'm afraid 1 don't" she re-

AU Are Guilty.
This throwing the gates wide
opeu to foreign immigration while
50000 in one city of the United
States and that not of the largest
class are starving for food the
bread winners of those thousands
out of employment is a terrible
arraignment of the imbecility and
inefliciency of congress in dealing
practically with the wants of the
Tieonlewhom in congress they
misrepresent. It is taking the
children's bread and throwing it
to foreign mouths. It is time to
call a halt unless the intention is
to pauperize the whole country
reducing the laborer in this coun-
try to abject conditions. There
is no one political party responsi-
sible for this state of affairs. All
are equally guilty. Tho present
regulations now being establish-
ed at Washington by republican
legislation are as ineffectual in
the existing conditions to remedy
the evil of over immigration as a
popgm against a mad bull. San
