Accidentally Killed.
Eirly this morning a negro tramp
giving his name as Sam Westley was
fatally injured while makjng an effort
to crawl from the "rods'under a moy
tug b"x car on the local freight train
which reaches Abitene about eight
oclock each morning. ' A painful and
ugly bruise on the left temple and a
considerable gash in the back of the
head and other cut.s etc. were visible
to the curious spectators who gathered
around The negro was carried to a
house out in town and Dr Haynes
called in to give him medical attention.

accident. . He will ba buried by the

Mr. S. Lapowski Interviewed
This afternoon the editor called at
the cfihe ol our enterprising fellow
townsman S. Lapowski who has just
returned front Atlantic Seaboard cities
and while he was very bus? he politely
waved business for hali an hour and
gave a short account of his trip and
his views concerning the business out-
look. He found ever? indication of a
great business and industrial revival at
ail points which he 'visited. Money is
plentiful at lower rates of interest than
for years. ' Mr. Lipowski thinks that
since the provisions of the new tariff
are well known and approved by the
leading manufacturers and importers
that its adoption will not interfere with
commercial or monetary transactions
and that the congested condition of
money centers will be promptly re-
lieved by the money flowing back into
the arteries of trade in conseguence of
a settled policy of the government up-
on these questions. After he had
completed his business in .other citie?
Mr. Lapowski went to Washington to
meet old friends and witness the inau-
gural ceremonies. He saw the Cleve-
land ceremonies four years ago .and
said that upon this occasion the
weather was as bright and beautiful as
the former was dark and ugly. The
ceremonies were the most.elabotate and
the parade the grandest ever known
and altogether the day was well worthy
of the occasion
He talked wilh the incoming president
and many others in high authority
while in the east and thinks that
nothing will be done at present toward
displacing effice holders only as they
resign or their team expire. The
diplomatic corps will firsf be-appoiut-
ed and some 10 months or more at
least will elapse before anything like a
teneral overhauling will begin A '"
tha future of the Abilene country Mr
Lanowkki is hopeful and while he
thinks it will share to some extent in
the general prosperity ol the country
he says we must look to a'good crop
as the basis of our prosperity for the
most part. He enjoyed his trip great-
ly and comes. home feeling refreshed
in mind and body and has taken hold
of business with his usual vigoi and
earnestness Mr. Lapowski's hope--fullnefa
inspired us with new courage
and we trqst his forecast will be fully
justified by a return of industrial asd
commercial conditions to their normal

Few People know that all plants
contain digestive principles. They
cannot absorb their food until it is di-
gested any more than animals can.
The Mount Lebanon Shakers have
learned the art of extracting and utiliz-
ing these digestive principles and it is
for this reason that their Shaker Diges
tive Cordial is meeting with such phe-
nomenal success in the treatment of
dyspepsia- The Shaker Digestive
Cordial not only contains food already
digested but it also contains digestive
principles which aid the digestion of
other foods that may be eaten with it.
A single 10 c:nt sample bottle will be
sufficient' to demonstrate its value
and we suggest tl.at every suffering
dyspeptic make a trial or it. Any drug

Judging by the sale of similar bonds
.in other states Texas irrigation bonds
will find a ready market if not put out
too rapidly .from many enterprises. Iq
looking over the field we are startled
at the. number and the magnitude of
enterprises that will be attempted as
soon as the proposed irrigation amend
ment is adopted. One of these will
require twenty millions of dollars to
complete and iu promotors are even
now making arrangements to have
everything ready to intelligently bt--gamze
a district hold the election
and float bonds. .Knowing something
about the topography of .West Texas
and the people who are looking for-
ward to the opportunity to .inaugurate
such enterprises we thinkvthat.not less
than five hundred millions ol dollars
will be wanted to use in. them inside of
two or three years. Thedlstric(sthat
get ready to sell the first bonds; will
get prompt buyers at par while those
who come in later will rind the mar-
kets overdone we. fear. We should
have our surveys made lines' marked
out and everything ready to organize
districts and to flaat bonds as soon as
possible after the ameuument becomes
operative.
