Wq oxtond to tho members of

that wield tho greatest influence

it Is our deliberate judgment that
the members of tho association

show to advantage in almost
every important characteristic
necessary for a discharge of the
duties of their profession. They
are now as never before called
upon to aid in driving from our
country tho doctrines of lawless-

a love of law and an admission of
its supremacy to all apparent
rights of citizens individually or
collectively. Two sessions of

Deplorable Accident
Yesterday a company of ten
happy boys left Abilene for a
day and night of fishing and
hunting. At seven o'clock in the
evening they struck caxup at Sul-
livan's Crossing of Clear Fork. By
some means a 22 targot rillo in
tho hands ot Walter Thatcher
was accidorttly discharged tho
bullott striking Harry Logan iu
tho right side and ranging to-
wards tho loft. Drs. Alexander
and Hollis wore called and in
company with Mr. and Mrs.
Thatcher Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
Logan tho latter tho par-
ents of the wounded boy.
ani a fow friends wont outl

about daylight. After making a
thorough oxamination tho sur-
geons wore unablo to determine
how serious tho case may be as
thoro is no way to ascertain what
parts may havo beon penetrated;
nor woro thoy able to locate tho
bullet which is Imbedded In tho
body. Harry Is one of our most
noblo aud promlsingyoung men
and this accident has called out
tho sympathy of evoryboJy for
him and his worthy parents aud
family The grief of young
Walter rimtcher is most intense
and also calls forth tho sincere
sympathy of all May tho event

a few weeks confinement to his

Another Suicide.
'On Tuesday or Wednesday af-
ternoon a Mr. Herbrough of
Ahdorson county came in with
his family enrouto to Aspermont
whore his mother artd -several
brothors live oho of tho latter
being .expected here to meet and
convoy them out to that neigh
borhood. Ho Is said to have
beon moving there permanently
being a farmor by occupation.
His brother was not hero and he
engaged rooms at the home of
Mrs. Arnim on Sycamore street
near South Second where he
and his family remained Last
night at 9:80 Mrs. Herbrough
gave an alarm and other board-
ers and tho family went to her
assistance finding that Mr. Her-
brough was under the influence
of a powerful drug and al-
ready unconscious. Dr. Alexan-
der was called in and with
the assistance of Dr. Haynes
(having ascertained that the
patient had .taken a large dose
of morphine) the unfortunate
man's stomach was washed out
five or six times but too Jate as
the fatal dose had done its work
the patient dying at 3:00 a. m. It
is thought that he took the mor-
vhine about 8:00 yesterday even-
uig. Having complained of no
pain it was evidently premedit-
ated self murder His widow
can not think of any cause for it
unless because of recent losses
of money. The family is a most
helpless one there being the
widow and five children ranging
in ages from seven down. Only
$1 60 was found on his person or
in his posession although he ar-
rived here with near $30. No
one knows how he spent it unless
some one got him into a game.
So far as we have hoard bis
brother whom he expected has
not arrived yet. It is said that
one of his brothers was killed in
Haskell county a couple of years
since by the father of a young
lady to whom" the young man
was paying attentions and the
father who took himself to the
penitentiary was shortly aftor-
wards pardoned; but this may
bo a mistake and we give it as
only a rumor. The sympathy of
the entirO community goes out to
the widow and fatherless child
ren. The funeral occurred this
afternoon at 4:00 tho burial tak-
ing place in the city cemetery.
