"One evening a maii was com-
ing through the woods with a pot
of gold which he had taken frdm
the end. of the rainbow. It was
heavy and he began to look for a
safe place to hide it. Ho at last
saw a poplar tree and decided to
utitin its branches. Tbo pop-
lar trees did not bold up -their
branches then as they do now-'
and tneir branches were a good
place to hide things in.
When Fairy Foot found the p6t
of gold was gone he went and tpid
the King whose name I do not
know but we will call him the Sun.
Whon he heard of it he sent out
Light-Wing and Daisys White to
look for it. They asked all th&
plants and trees if they had seen
the pot of gold and they answered
no. Then Light Wing said "Hold
up your branches" and tho rot
of gold fell out of ono and the-
tree fell down and said uForgiye
me oh Sun I will always holtS
up my branche- " At first the-
people people 'inched at him but.
soon they begun to do the same?

poplar to do the same "
So that is tho way tho poplar
trees learned to hold up their
branches.
