announcement of Marsh A. Hart
for the office of public weigher in
the Abilene precinct. Mr. Hart
has filled the office of public
weigher for the county two or
more terms and has a record as
a faithful and impartial officer.
He is qualified courteous and
attentive to business and we
ask for h;s candidacy the due
consideration of the voters.
A. J. Bush Jr. one of our
cleverest young men is now con-
nected with the populai Abilene
Dry Goods Co. Miss Hiatt for-
merly with the Abilene Mjllin-
ery Co. and Miss Scott late of
Lapowski Mercantile Co. are also

Conductor Joe Scully whose
death was reported yesterday
had many friends in Abilene who
mourn his death. He ran the
first passenger train into Abi-
lene and the townsite company
made him a present of three lots
now occupied by J. M. Wagstaff
as a homestead. He built a houfo
on the lots and rented it some
years. He was one of Abilene's
best friends always having a
good word for the town and her
people who he declared are the
salt rf the earth. When T. O.
Anderson was at Mineral WeJls
sick last summer Mr Scully
and wife were there the former
tho picture of health and
strength. Mr. Anderson speaks

ent -sholarship to the college

agreement that the principal be
kept intact forever and that the
yearly income derived from the
fund securely invested is to cive
free tuition to a student in Sim
mons College to be selected by
the president of the college but
the preference in applications
each year for the fund shall be
given the children of German
parents and if none such apply
then to any other worthy indig-
ent student. I would be pleased
to know each year tho name of
the student who is the benefici
ary of this fund. If your board
of trustees will accept the fund
on these conditions and will so
