NT mini-courses offer
music, rag sweaters
NT's mini-course schedule for the 1984 fall semes-
ter offers classes in writing, arts and crafts, and music.
Classes include:
• "Creative Writing Workshop-Seminar" is an infor-
mally structured workshop during which students are
required to complete one short story.
• "Writing for Christian Magazines" is designed
to teach students how to target work to Christian
publications.
• "Beginning Drawing" is designed to improve per-
ception and drawing by developing hand and eye
coordination.
• "Beginning Oil Painting" is designed to intro-
duce beginning painters to the fundamentals of oil
painting.
• "Tole and Decorative Painting" will teach crafts
such as preparation and finishing wood and crockery.
• "Beginning Tiffany Stained Glass" will offer
instruction in the tiffany or "copper foil" technique
of stained glass.
• "Papermaking" will teach the basic techniques
of hand-making paper.
• "Ceramics" will explore a variety of techniques
used in the construction of vessel forms, including
the use of the potter's wheel and slab construction
techniques. Some experience in clay is recommended.
• "Rag and Ribbon Sweaters" is a course designed
to acquaint knitters with methods of knitting high-
fashion sweaters at a fraction of retail cost. The class
will also include the fundamentals of knitting.
• "Pen and Ink" will teach how to ink with a crow
quill pen.
• "Quilting" will teach a variety of quilting techni-
ques.
• "Mini-Canvas (Oil)" will teach participants to paint
on small canvases.
• "Beginning 5-String Banjo" will teach the basic
techniques of three-finger style picking, right-hand
rolls, and left-hand fingering.
• "Beginning Guitar" will provide an introduc-
tion to basic guitar skills such as tuning the guitar,
strumming and picking styles, reading lead sheets
and learning open string chords.
• "Class Voice" is designed for people with little
or no previous voice training and will cover the fun-
damentals of correct breathing, tone prouduction and
diction.
• "Beginning Piano for Adults" is designed for adults
with no prior experience in piano playing.
• "Continuing Piano for Adults" is designed for
people who have had the "Beginning Piano for
Adults" mini-course or the equivalent training.
Registration for mini-courses is handled on a first-
come-first-serve basis and must be completed the day
before a class begins. Mail-in registrations will be
accepted until one week prior to the first class meet-
ing and students are enrolled in a class unless they
are otherwise notified.
Mini-course schedules can be picked up at the Cen-
ter for Community Services in Oak Street Hall, the
Sullivant Center or the information desks in the Uni-
versity Union Building, the Administration Building
and the Willis Library.

ARTS CENTER—The old city warehouse and machine shop
at the corner of Bell and East Hickory Streets is being convert-
ed into the Denton Visual Arts Center The conversion is expect-
ed to be completed by the first of January.
