A Boston newspaper published
a silly Btory about the president's
children chasing his thanks-
giving turkoy about the White
House grounds cruelly pluoking
the bird until it was exhausted
while their fond father stood by
and laughed heartily. The story
was not only silly but utterly
false as the turkey came to the
executive mansion dressed as it
has for the past quarter of a
century from the same donor.
But the silliest and smallest thing
reported is that the president has
issued an order that the paper
be refused faoilites in future for
news in all the government de-
partments This is almost in-
credible. Does the preident
really believe that he and he
alone is the government
and that he has the right to or-
der any citizen of this great na-
tion to stay off the premises of
any department of the govern-
ment? He might as well order
our postmaster to refuse to hand
out mail to The Reporter or to
say that it shall not use any news
tern oonoerning the government.
If this report be true Roosevelt is
assuming an authority not claim
ed by any monaroh of a constitu
tional government on earth.
What will he do next? The
action of the Boston newspaper
was not one-tenth as little as the
reported ordor of the president.
What is Taylor oounty going
to do about being put into the
state road distriot? That we need
more road and bridge money
needs no argument to prove. It
is easy to get the privilege to'
vote a higher tax and this should
be done. Our roads will be in a
miserable condition when the
rains come.
Every man who beautifies his
home is a benefactor to his town.
You oannot do better than to
plant a few trees. They will re-
ward you and your family and
become a source of pleasure to
your neighbors and oven the
passing stranger.
