"It has been .said that Mrs. Fish
sometimes carriod bar high Ideas of
courtesy too far. With that fitrio-
turo I ngroo heurtUy. Mrs. Fish's
courtesy was quixotic.
"Ono of hor rules for instance
was to roturn ovory call she receiv-
ed. Her husband was continually
holding publio receptions and to
these out of courtesy many Women
would como who had no desire that
Mrs. Fish should call upon them
who wore in no position to rccoivo
her properly if she did call.
"One such woman attended a Fish
reception left hor card and a lijttlo
later was duly honored -with a call
from Mrs. Fish.
"It was a beautiful mild after-
noon. Tho Fish oquipogo all a-glitr
tor in tho wintry sunshine dashed
down the narrow street and halted
beforo tho woman's shabby little
hou6c with a musical jinglo of silver
chains. Tho footman leaped from
the box and "opened tho carriage
door. Mrs. Fish descended.
"Tho poor woman of tho house
where was she. all this time P She
alas was kneeling oa the sidewulk
beside a. bucket of hot water. Her
sleeves wore rolled baok. Sho had a
scrubbing brush in one hand und a
cako of soap in tho other. She was
scrubbing hor front steps 1 s
"Imagino how sho felt I What

ment so awkward? Would you havo

"Mrs. Fish bending over her said
" 'Is Mrs. Henry Smith at homo?'
"And Mrs. Henry Smith replied
No mum she ain't' and went on

Catching fish without hook bait
or net may seem to inlanders almost
an impossibility. Such fishing may
be seen on tho Atlantic coast night-
ly in winter near New York and a
species of tho finny family most suc-
culent and toothsome is secured by;
the thousands during tho winter
season in this way.
Tho little frost fish tome in near

ceeding roller carries them safely
back into tho icy green seas unloss

To fight liko the cats of Kilken-
ny Tclates to tho Irislif ablo of two
Kilkenny cats which fought so
fiercely that only 'their tails wero

is Said to have originated in an ac-
tual oplsode.. Jurlng tho Irish re-
bellion of 1808 it was a custom of
tho HoBsinn soldiers stationed at
Kilkenny' to tie two cats togethor
.by their tails hang them over a
clotheslino and then bavo tliem to
fight. Surprised ono night at this
brutal sport a- soldior drew his
sword and by a cut across .their tails
set tho cats free. The presence of
the tails was explained by saying
that two cata had fought till only
thoir tails wore left.

"I got bore all right but forgot to

out in a boat and the boat tipped

so full of water that I didn't know
anything for a long time. Tho oth-

find him. His mother came and
cried all the time. A horse kicked
me over and I've got to havo soma

going to set a barn on flro tonight
