.Truck Farming M
- Hadley cRoberts Ofewoomb
has the honor of introducing or
starting the first truok farming
by irrigation in Shackelford
county. From him we glean the
the following f acts of his exper-
iment thus far.
The oost'of water storage about
S500. "Water sufficient to irrigate
about seven aores of land. The
dam was not oompletod until lattf
in the spring. Garden was
planted in June. Up to August
20th has sold enough vegetables
to pay 20 per cent on the invest-
ment with the fall garden to
come in yet.
Had Mr. Roberts construoted'a
dam last winter and got the ad-
vantage of an early garden ne
would havejrealizedjenough on the
seven aores of land the first year
to pay all expenses of construct-
ing the dam.
A FEW DISCUSSIO'NS.
There are men who have been
livinfl- in this oountry for forty
years starving to death for veg-
etables and oursing the country.
Nearly every one of these fel-
low have good tanks and if they
had as much energy as a laBt
year bird's nest they would
(years ago) pipe the water out on
the fertile lands below their tanks
and have vegetables for home
consumption and worlds of them
to ship abroad.
Mr. Roberts' experiment fore-
tells the future of Shackelford
oounty. It's irrigation gentle-
men! With our natural advan-
tages for water storeage ; with
our long seasons (can raise at
least three orops) salubrious cli-
mate and fertile soil JShaokelford
couuty is destined tobeoome in
the very near future the truok
patoh of the world. There is one
place on Hubbard Creek that we
have in mind (there are numer-
ous others) where a dam oould
be constructed at a nominal coat
say ten thousand dollars with
a storage oapaoity to irrigate
from five to ten thousand acres
of land. Under the present con-
dition this land is worth about
S10 per aore. Give it irrigation
facilities and it would be worth
S10Q.00 per aore. Can you fig-
ure? Albany News.
A. J. Addington of Ceiterline
was -today with two tales "of
cotton whioh he sold at 10' oents
The Conterlino gin has started
up and has a good run in pros-
peot. Mr. Addington's orop pros-
pects are as good as he ever had
both in cotton and feed orops.
Old cotton is espioally good in
his neighborhood while the
younger crop is still dependent
to a great extent upon rains
whioh would bring it up to a good
yield. It is certainly good to got
Mr Addington's report because
it is ohoorful and we know that
he tells things exaotly aa they
are.

Diarrhoea Remedy that he
thought would help him out and
accordingly several doses were
administered with the result that
the fellow was able to be around
