AUSTIN TEX Sopt. 10.-R. T Mil-
nqr Commissioner of JVgrlculturcfthis
morning gavo out the monthly report
of tho Bureau of Cotton Statistics
showing tho total number of bales of
cotton ginned ns'ar as reported up
to Sept 1. According to his"roport
thero Jhavo beenginned this year 107-
009 bales. ;- .
j This report is not very sntlsfatcory
as not moro than one-third of tho "gins
of thoSstnto hnvp mado reports. It
can be usod as guide howoverr arid
taking into consideration tho lateness
of( tho season It indicates there' is a
bettor cotton crop in Texas this year
than had been expected.
According to 'United States Govern-
ment reports 4here woro ginned be
fore Sept 1 last year 328586 bales.
For the wholo season of 1900 there
woro'ginhed 3957619 bales. -'
Commissioner Milnor feels sure that
nearly two-thirds of the cotton ginned
this year1 has not been reported and
that much 'of It will bo included in
next month's report. The Bureau of
Cotton Statistics -has been slow in
getting-Jri working order this year and
It Is likely that the reports for this
year will not be complete. .
It had been the intention pf'the Com?
mlssloner of Agriculture to give out
the. report by counties. at the same
time tho total number of hales was
given out. Many gmners did not re-
port the counties their gtas were' loca-
ted in so the bales cannot be arranged
in counties. This report will be given
out later in the week." The ;commls-
sloner will also have a report show-
ing the first bale from each county.
Tho heaviest cotton producing sec
tion according to tho report for the
month of September' was in DeWitt
Goliad and Gonzales counties that be
ing ohe! of the earliest 'sections liPthe
State.
