Hicks & Chicks

With the Foster vacation,
many clubs cancelled their
dances during the week.
Phil traveled to Bryan
Monday of last week for the
lessons and on Tuesday the
Square Devils Club in Austin
had an Hast or Party. Each
bringing eggs, baskets, etc.
which were to bo donated to
a worthy cause. Caller Phil,
enjoyed every minute of it
and everyone had a great
time.
la* traveled up to Okla
honui last weekend to set-
tier nephew win Grand
Champion at a stock show.
She was thrilled over the
outcome but tired from the
trip. She met Phil and me in
Bryan on Monday night and
came home with us.
Tuesday, Minnie and
Norbv Ra ley traveled to
Austin to attend the Chris
Vear workshop and Friday
attended the Flutterwheel
dance.
The Phil Phillips were also
attending a dance out of
town, but I did not find out
which club they attended.
List Sunday evening
dancing was fun for the
Hicks and Chicks. Some
wore out of town but
everyone had a good time.
Duo to Faster and the fact
that so many had company
for the weekend the meeting
of the club was postponed
until a later date
The 1 .ester's had their
family home for Faster.
Fvoryono had a great time
as families do when they can
all l>e together.
The Ha leys had their
family with them over the
weekend.
Zelma Hammons had her
family from Brown wood
with her all week.
I. along with daughter,
traveled to College Station
to dine out with granddaugh
tor, Cindy, as she was unable
to come home.
We are looking forward to
a fine dance this coming
week and hope that every
one will be able to attend.

The vows were said before
an altar decorated with floral
arrangements of pink tulips,
t arnations, roses, white and
purple daisies, and baby's
breath. Cathedral tapers
burned in six large white
candelabra. forming a
beautiful backdrop to thi*
very meaningful occasion.
The Heverend Preston S.
Adkison officiated. Organist,
Mrs. Mike Schuelke, played
the traditional wedding
music.
Candle* were lighted by
Keith and Kevin Boatright,
cousins of the bride. Faeh
wore a burgundy tux with
pink rose boutonniere.
Guests were registered as
they entered the church by
Mi*.* Cynthia Sanders, sister
of the groom.
Mi** Stephanie Karrer, of
Alpine, Texa*. sang
"Wedding Song," accom
panying herself on the
guitar.
Ushers were Joe Ha liens
burg. Bruce Bromley of
Asih'H, Colorado, Bob
Turner of Bastrop and Fd
Swanson of l.arising. Michi
gan. All wore burgundy tux
with pink rose boutonniere*.
The bride, entering on the
arm of her father, was lovely
in a beautiful formal gown of
ivory satin designed by
George Maurer. The bodice
of the high neckline was
delicately covered with
re embroidered alencon lace
with a sheer yoke of ivory
*ilk organza. The long slim
sleeves wore adorned with
lace and tapered into a
delicate point at the wrist.
The gown was accented by
traditional buttons on the
back and at the cuff. The
A line skirt was scattered
with medallions of lace and
carried with it a chapel
length train edged in lace.
To complement this elegant
touch, the bride chose her
headpiece a matching
picture hat of re embroi
dored alencon lace with a
three tiered ruffled covered
brim, with fingertip illusion
and a bow in the back. She
carried a nosegay of white
and pink roses, carnations,
purple and white daisies, and
baby's breath. Satin stream
ors trailing gracefully from
the bouquet wore entwined
with roses and daisies. A
pale pink orchid was
featured in the center of the
bouquet.
Miss Brenda Daniels was
maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Miss Anita Gurwit/,
Miss Brenda Hollman, and
Miss Holly Kana. All wore
fonn.il length dresses of
mauve pink chenussa quiana
with matching cape lets. All
wire matching mauve pink
sh«*-v lyively flower piece*
of sweetheart roses, carna
tiona, and baby's breath
adorned each bridal atten
dant's hair. Fach carried a
nosegay bouquet of pirik
tulip*, rosos, carnations, and
baby's breath. Mauve
streamers were entwined
with tho same flowers of the
nosogay.
The groom wore an ivory
tux with matching shirt and
a while rose boutonniere
from tho bridal bouquet.
Pit! Sanders, of Auslin,
brother of the groom, served
as best man. Groomsmen
won- Johnny Wioting, Has
trop, Tim Kirschner of
Baltimore. Maryland, Lee
Dildy of Flgin, All wore
burgundy lux with pink
shirts and pink rose bouton
nieres.
little Miss Jo Beth
Pearson, of Victoria, and
cousin of the bride, was
flowor girl. She wore a
mauve pink floor length
dross of chernissa quiana
knit, and carried a dainty
white wicker basket of pink
and purple carnations,
daisies, anil pink sweetheart
roses. A mauve pink silk
ribbon streamed from the
basket handle. Pink rose-
buds and baby's breath
adorned her hair.
Todd Pearson of Victoria,
and cousin of the bride, was
ringboarer. He wore a
burgundy tux with [link rose
boutonniere. The rings wen-
carried on a white satin, lace
edged pillow, with pink
sweetheart roses fastened in
one corner.
The bride's mother wore a
floral chiffon formal length
gown, of pale gray with
mauve pink flowers. The
groom's mother wore a
formal length gown of blue
chiffon and organza. Both
mothers wore pale pink
orchid corsages.
The reception was held at
the Pine Forest Racquet
Club in Tahitian Village,
Bastrop. Guests registered
at a table covered with pink
linen and featuring an
arrangement of pink roses
and purple daisies and
English Ivy in a small white
cricular bird cage. White
artificial doves perched in
the cage and on the open
door.
The bride's table was
covered with a pink linen
cloth and held a large white
round cake decorated with
pink roses. A silver cande
la bra holding lighted tapers
and an arrangement of pink
tulips, roses, carnations, and
baby's breath graced an end
of the table.
The wedding cake, four
tiered, with white frosting,
was decorated with pink
roses, accented with chani
pagno sparkling lighted
fountain and topped with
three tiers of lace wedding
bells. A stairway with
briiiesmaid and groomsmen
figures wound around the
entire outside of the cake to
the top. Small round cakes
circled the main cake.
The groom's table was
covered with a pink linen
cloth. The groom's cake, in
the shape of a horseshoe,
was chocolate, with choco-
late icing. Smaller matching
cakes were arranged around
this cake. Clusters of
luscious green grapes were
arranged in the center
opening of each cake. A
floral candelabra arrange
ment matching that on the
bride's table was placed on

Monday, March 13 Sheila
Oldfield participated in the
Lockhart Invitational (iolf
Tournament for girls. Bas
trop does not have a girls
golf team so Sheila must
enter tournaments as
medalist. Sheila placed
second in the medalist
division with a score of 78.
Marci Bozarth of Lampasas
was first with a 73. Sheila is
last year's A A State
Champion and Marci is the
AAA State Champion.
Clemens High School of
Sehortz was team winner
with a 368, Rockdale was
second with 386 and Lam
pasas was third with 398.
These were followed by
Georgetown with 407, Del
Valle with 410, Lockhart
with 461, Jefferson Moore of
Waco with 505 and Bolton
with 509.
Thursday, March 16 the
boys team traveled to
Georgetown and won third
place honors with a team
score of 331. First place
winner was Georgetown
with 320, second was
Copperas Cove with 325 and
Bastrop and Lockhart tied
for third with 331. Bastrop
won third on the basis of the
score of the fifth man on the
team who was Ricky
Kershaw who scored a 93.
These were followed by
Rockdale with 333, Del Valle
with 349, lioander with 360,
Llano with 360, Georgetown
U2 with 366 and Pflugerville
with 391.
Allen Fskew was Bastrop
team medalist and second
medalist for the tournament
with 75, Keith Fvans scored
82. Benton Fskew scored 86.
John Shirley scored 88 and
Ricky Kershaw scored 93.
Monday, March 20 both
boys' teams participated in
the Bolton Tournament at
Leon Valley Country Club
which featured Coach Fred
Ackers of Texas University
as guest celebrity.
In this tournament Bas-
trop again placed third with
a score of 338. Team winner
was Brownwood with a score
of 323, second was Rockdale
with 325 and third was
Bastrop with 338. Others
were Caldwell with 350,
Lampasas with 351, St.
Stephens of Austin with 352,
Bolton #2 with 354, Salado
with 356, Dr. Springs with
356, Leander with 361,
Vanguard with 385, Florence
with 394. Bast nip #2 with
405, Luling with 418, Moody
with 420 and Salado #2 with
501.
Brian Jones of Rockdale
was medalist with a 77 and
Benton Fskew was second
medalist with 78. Keith
Evans scored an 84. Allen
Eskew 85, Ricky Kershaw
91, John Shirley 98, Mike
Lester 98, Todd Olsen 99.
John Jones 99 and Keith
Smith 109.
Also on Monday, March
20. Sheila Oldfield partici-
pated in the Columbus Girls'
Invitational. Sheila was
second medalist with a score
of 43on the front side and 37
on the back. No other
information about the
tournament is known at this
time
Monday, March 20 the
Junior High Boys golf team
participated in their first
tournament of the year at
the Hancock Golf Course in
Austin and scored a team
score of 422. The team was
not complete as the seventh
graders were in a testing
program and could not
participate.
Troy Schulke was Bastrop
tean\ medalist with 92, Wes
Wiley scored 99, Randy
Kershaw scored 114 and
Tony Gal van scored 127.
This is a good start for the
Junior High golfers and a lot
more participation is ex-
pected in the near future.
District for the Junior High
Boys and Girls is scheduled
for April 11 in Hallettsville.
Thursday, March 23,
Sheila Oldfield participated
in the Llano Girls Invita-
tional Tournament and came
in second medalist with a
fine score of 76. She was
second only to Marci
Bozarth, the 3A State
Champion, of Lampasas who
scored a 75.
Team winner of the
tournament was Fredricks-
burg with 387. Tied for
second were Lampasas with
388 and Llano also with 388.
Tivy High School of Kerville
scored 405, Hays Con-
solidated 119 and Del Valle
465.
Sheila will play her next
high school tournament
Thursday March 30 in
Kenedy where she is
defending medalist cham-
pion and the boys
will also participate in the
Kenedy High School Boys
Invitational.

cousin of the bride, and Miss
Michelle Sanders, sister of
the groom.
For her travel ensemble,
the bride wore a white knit
suit. Her costume was
accented with an orchid
corsage, taken from her
wedding bouquet.
The rehearsal dinner,
hosted by Mr. and Mrs. A.A.
Sanders, was held at the
Pine Forest Racquet Club,
Tahitian Village.
Parties honoring Miss
Boatright included a family
shower, given by Mrs. Ed
Sanders, of Austin; a
Miscellaneous shower by the
bridesmaids, a wine shower
by Miss Suzanne Sanders, of
Austin; and an office shower.
Rainbow girls to host
school of instruction
Bastrop Assembly #354,
Order of the Rainbow Girls
were host to a School of
Instruction on the 11th day
of March at the Masonic
Lodge.
The school was held under
the direction of Mrs.
Willaveene Daigle and Mrs.
Margaret Pfeiffer, Grand
Visitors, with seven assem-
blies being represented.
They were Schertz, Seguin,
New Braunfels, San Marcos,
Lockhart and Luling and
Bastrop Assemblies.
In attendance were three
Grand Officers and one Past
Grand Officer, thirteen Past
and Present Worthy Ad-
visors and twelve Past and
Present Mother Advisors,
one Past Master and four
Worthy Matrons and
Worthy Patrons, a total of
66 Rainbow Girls, 25 Adult
members and OES and
Masons.
Bastrop Assembly was
very proud of the attendance
for the school and were
delighted to be able to have
such a lovely building to hold
the school in. Their greatest
apprectiation to the Masonic
Lodge who so generously
provided this beautiful build-
ing for their use.
As this was the first time
that Bastrop has had the
pleasure of having a School
of Instruction they were
very proud of the attendance
and the success of the school.
We wish to thank everyone
who had any part in helping
to make the school the huge
success it was.
Many Bastrop girls are
making plans to attend
Grand Assembly which will
be held in San Antonio this
year. Our Grand Officers will
be there and many of the
girls will serve as Grand
Pages and Grand Guards for
this Grand Assembly. We
will also be represented in
the Grand Choir.
The Order of Rainbow has
done wonderful things for
the girls of Bastrop and we
are proud of their ac-
complishments.
