The ladies of the LBA
| Auxiliary worked very hard
this past weekend and had a
very successful garage sale
at the fire station. Proceeds
from the sale will be used to
insure a successful Christ-
mas Party for the commun-
ity on December 2. The
ladies who helped with the
actual selling of the items
were Hilda Harrison, Phyllis
Hestilow. Dorothy Craw-
ford, Mary Samson, Eulala
Bussa. Betty Burrow and
Mrs. G.J. Richter. These are

all very busy ladies, but they
always seem to have time for
their community. We want
to thank them for their time
and effort and also any
others that I may have left
out.
On November 13 at 7:30
p.m. the LBA Fire Auxiliary
will meet at the fire station
for a very important
meeting. At that time, they
will be electing officers for
the coming year and making
definite plans for the annual
Christmas Party. We urge
all interested ladies to plan
to attend this very import
ant meeting.
Indies, have you ever
wondered just what the
auxiliary does, anyway?
Tni sure all of you have
heard the usual comments
that it is a waste of time, a
gossip session, of no use
whatsoever. But consider
what our community would
have to do without each year
if we did not have an
auxiliary: the country store
at the Spring Festival (and
probably the Spring Festi
val), the ladies work for
months making items for the
store and then operate it;
the Fourth of July Picnic and
the Labor Day Picnic at the
park I how many of you have
enjoyed the good food and
fellowship on those picnics);
the Halloween Party at the
fire station (another occasion
of good food and fellowship
where our children can enjoy
a "safe Halloween"); and
finally the annual Christmas
Party where the auxiliary

the true Christmas spirit.
The Auxiliary does all of this
besides supporting our vol

first and main purpose. If
you'd like to be a part of thus
hard working group of
ladies, come Monday night at

I understand Lydia Elliott
has been under the weather.
Hope she is feeling better.
Frank Sawyer, too, was
down awhile ago with back
tremble. Glad he is doing
better.
Hie Cliff Leveretts have
officially retired and are
almost settled in their home
here. We are glad to have
Cliff and Lee, although it is
hard to think of them as new
neighbors since they have
been coming up from
Channel view to work on
their home for several years
now in preparation for their
retirement.
Besides the Leveretts, we
want to welcome the Vernon
Steeds who have officially
retired here from Texas
City. The Steeds have a son.
Rusty, who is in the eighth
grade. The Steeds, for those
who haven't met them, are
Phyllis Hestilow's parenls.
Speaking of Phyllis, she
and Buddy had company this
weekend. Her brother and
his family, the WW. Steeds
of Texas City, were here this
weekend to visit with Buddy
and Phyllis and the Vernon
Steeds.

EULOGY
He was not but 5 feel 6
inches tall, yet he was the
biggest man we have ever
known. His life consisted of
God. his wife, his children
and his fellowman. He was
never too busy to help a
friend or neighbor in need.
He was a perfectionist.
Nothing was ever done
half way. His life was a
perfect example for all of us
to follow. No matter how bad
thtngs were, he never lost
his faith in God or his sense
of humor. His life touched
the lives of many people. It
was inevitable that his heart
would be the cause of his
death for he gave it so
readily to everyone he came
in contact with. We haven't
lost just a husband, a daddy
and a grandfat her, we've lost
our best friend Our only
consolation is that God ha*
gained a Saint.
