THE PROBLEM WITH POETRY
Ben Weaver
There is a plight within the art called poetry,
problematic and pitiful;
poor paupers pine away their psyche
in volumes and volumes
filled with perfection.
For what purpose do our paupers pine
and fill those sacred volumes with perfection?
Why 'tis for the passion
That they feel within their breasts,
for one sweet maiden who, like all the rest,
gives him a passing glance no more, no less.
And yet 'tis all our poor pauper needs.
A single look.
'Twill fill more passionate volumes within his heart
than all of the wordsmiths on this petrified planet,
with their pale and unloved hearts.
But, will the pauper win his princess
by his passionate plea?
Will the volumes of his heart come
bursting forth at once to carry her free?
A man has only the words within his heart
With which to carry the day.
