for signing Friday at Cooper.
The project had been held
up by disagreements bo* ween
the State ol Texas, the Corps
of Engineers, the Federal Wa-
ter Pollution Contiol Admin-
1 ration, the City of Irving, the
City of Texarkana, North Tex-
as Municipal Water District of
Texas, and Sulphur River
Municipal Water District of
Texas.
The Cooper Reservoir, up-
stream from Lake Texarkana
in the same watershed, will
enable Texarkana Reservoir to
be held at a higher level and
make water from it available
for municipal and industrial
use.
Texarkana Reservoir now is
primarily a flood control lake.
Congressman Wright Pat-
man predicted the contracts to
be signed Friday will bring
tremendous benefits to North
East Texas.
They will open the door for
greatly expanded residential
development, will increase
tourism and recreational po-
tential in the eniire region,
and will offer immediate op-
portunities for industrial de-
velopment that stagger the
imagination, Patman ?aid.

LETTERS TO
THE EDITOR
EDITOR:
Here are some of the activi-
ties that we would like for
each person in Morris, Marion
and Cass counties to know. It
is dealing with the monument
fund for the veterans.
At a meeting of the com-
mittee on the fund held March
18, the members voted on Ap-
ril 30 as the date for closing
out the drive for accepting do-
nations to the monument fund.
The monument will be erect-
ed on the courthouse square
in Linden. We are eager that
every veteran who has served
or is now serving his country
will be honored before the
drive closes. If you have not
honored your loved ones with
a donation or made a donation
to all veterans, please do so
before the closing date.
The veteran's name in whose
honor you have given, will be
listed on the scroll to be kept

give this information to those
you talk with because it is
hard to get the word to the
people in three counties.
We are looking forward to
the dedication of the monu-
ment on Nov. 11, 1968, which
is Veterans Day.
Again we want to thank
each person wno has made a
contribution and those who
will donate before the closing
date.

A Doctor Williamson, writing of missions in China in 1910
quotes a turn-cf-the-century Chinese medical journal: "Flies
are of great use to man, for their heads when pounded and
used as a pomade form an infallible hair restorer for the
head, beard and eyebrows . . . Bats are harmless and of great
value to medicine. Their flesh applied as a poultice is a sov-
ereign cure for the stings of scorpions: roasted and eaten,
they dry up the excess of saliva in infants . . . There is noth-
ing better for that dangerous disease, lethargy, than to put
fleas into the patient's ears . . . The main object of the cre-
ation of bugs was the benefit of the sick." Let lis hope that
the new Chinese Peoples Republic also has revolutionised
medicine.
