The pine tree planting pro-
gram will start on Dec. 4 in
the Marion-Cass Soil Conser-
vation District.
The 1957-58 planting sea-
son will break all records for
the number of trees being
planted in any one season.
More than 260 landowners
will plant approximately 6,-
500,000 trees in the district.
Between 6,500 and 7,000 acres
will be planted.
These seedlings will be
planted at the rate of about
1.000 per acre and will be
ready for their first thinning
in from 12 to 14 years. The
first thinning will more than
offset the cost of planting,
taxes, and interest on the in-
vestment, officials of the dis-
trict said.
The landowner can harvest
a crop every 6 to 7 years after
the thinning.
