SAM FOWLER, JR.
Sam Fowler, Jr. has his
name in the news this
week because of a small
piece of paper given him
a few days ago.
It was presented by
George Hall, the superin-
tendent of Lone Star Steel
Company's coke plant.
Mr. Fowler is a mechani-
cal maintenance employee
that works in Hall's area.
The paper was a Notice
of Commendation recog-
nizing Fowler for making
a valuable contribution to
Lone Star Steel.
It was issued "for alert-
ness in observing a badly
cracked travel wheel on
the coke pusher machine
and for promptly notify-
ing the oven foreman of
this dangerous conditiAM^
The paper went on^fo
say, "In my opinion be-
cause of your alertness,
you prevented major dam-
age to the pusher ma-
chine and likely also the
oven brickwork. We not
only commend you for
this special contribution,
but also would recognize
your fine performance of
job duties from day to
day."
The commendation was
signed by Fowler's fore-
man, W. D. Pyland, and
superintendent Hall.
The recipient is now in
his second stint as a Lone
Star employee. He first
was employed at the coke
ovens from 1947 to 1954.
After a year's absence, he
returned as a mechanical
maintenance employee.
He is a resident of Dain-
gerfield.
