IKEY HARTE
Ikey Harte of Naples
pit his name in the news
this -week because of a
long love for horses. A
Lone Star Steel employee
for the past 17 years, the
Morris County native has
always liked horses.
At the present time, he
owns five including a reg-
istered quarter horse filly
he bought recently for
his daughter. "She's four
and a half now," he said,
"and has been riding in
the saddle with me in all
the parades."
Harte figures in most
of the parades in the Na-
ples area for he is presi-
dent of the Naples Boots
and Saddle Club. The or-
ganization has just con-
cluded a highly success-
ful rodeo, the first in Na-
ples in nine years.
He helped organize the
club in 1949 and assisted
in a reorganization in
1961. He has been presi-
dent since then.
Harte has headed an
active program which in-
cludes trail rides and rop-
ing and construction of
the rodeo arena. The
steel-fenced arena has
concrete grandstands that
will hold 2700 rodeo fans.
One of the unusual fea-
tures of the club is the
fact that it maintains its
own roping stock. "We
keep a few calves for the
members who like to
practice roping," he ex-
plained. "When they get
too big, we sell them off
and buy more."
The club has approxi-
mately 100 members.
By Nita Lowery
Italians take their daily eat-
ing seriously. A full course
dinner starts with Antipasto,
which simply means "before
the pasta".
Antipasto includes such ap-
petizers as olives, anchovie,
sardines, pickled vegetables,
etc.
Pasta is any dish of paste
based on wheat flour, baked
very thin and then cut in dif-
ferent shapes like macaroni,
spaghetti or vermicelli.
Contrary to popular belief,
Italy is the Mother of Contin-
ental European Cookery.
French cooking, famous as
it is, grew directly out of the
Italian, taking on its own char-
acteristics as it grew. An Itali-
an dinner usually includes an
appetizer, a soup or pasta
comes next, then a fish or
meat course with vegetables
and a salad, and last but far
from least, the dessert.
