FHA loans go above $198,000
older on Jan. 1, 1967 totaled
34.6 million head, up from
the 24.2 million head on Jan.
1, 1958.
The increase from Jan. 1,
1966 to Jan. 1, 1967 was very
slight.
The larger cattle slaughter
during the past two years
more than offset inventory ad-
ditions from calf crops and
live cattle imports. The total
cattle inventory is expected
to decline further because of
the drop in the number of
dairy cattle.
Beef cattle numbers in 1967
are expected to increase at
about the same rate as it has
in the past two years. That
will be a moderate increase.
Fed cattle marketings in
1967 could equal or exceed
those for 1966 without reduc-
ing the inventory of calves
and yearlings carried in 1958.
This results from the increase
in the supply of young calves
at the beginning of the year.
