Correspondent tells of a certain
business man who advertised for a
stenographer and was inundated with
applicants of all ages. So numerous
were they that he told the office boy
not to admit any more. Shortly af-

and, pushing her way through the oth«
ers, asked to see the chief.
"You can't," replied the boy.
"But I'm his wife," she protested.

Drink Plenty of Water and Take
Glasa of Salts Before Break-
fast Occasionally
When your kidneys hurt and your
buck feels sore, don't get scared und
proceed to load your stomach with a
lot of drugs that excite the kidneys
and irritate the entire urinary tract.
Keep your kidneys clean like you
keep your, bowels clean, by flushing
them with a mild, harmless salts
which helps to remove the body's
urinous waste and stimulate them to
their normal activity.
The function of the kidneys is to
filter the blood. In 24 hours they
strain from it 500 grains of acid and
waste,, so we can readily understand
the vital Importance of keeping the
kidneys active.
Drink lots of good water—you can't
drink too much; also get from any
pharmacist about four ounces of Jud
Salts. Take a tablespoonful In a
gluss of water before breakfast each
morning for s few days and your kid-
neys may then act fine. This famous
salts is made from the acid of grapes
and lemon juice, combined with llthla,
nnd has been used for yenrs to help
clean und stimulate clogged kidneys;
also to neutralize the acids in the
system so they are no longer a source
of irritation, thus often relieving
bladder weakness.
.Tad Salts Is inexpensive; cannot In-
jure; makes a delightful effervescent
llthia-water drink which everyone
should take now and then to help
keep their kidneys clean and active.
Try this; also keep up the water
drinking, and no doubt you will won-
der what became of your kidney trou-
ble and backache.

Passing of Community
Singing Loss to World
"What has happened to community
singing, which did its part in winning
the war and afterward made life mer-
rier for {ige as well as youth?" asks
the Independent, Boston. There Is a
dearth of It now, and even when one
finds It the old gusto Is gone and the
listless charuses drag through to n
drooping end. This ought not to be.
There Is much more than a social
heart warming In popular song. Im-
portant as that may he in our con-
glomerate country. The individual's
own stimulus is most Important of
all, for he ought to "go forth to life"
with spirit and power.
One cannot listen in church, which
ought to be the greatest place for com-
munity song, without wondering why
the gift has fallen into disuse. People
mechanically go through the form of
opening their hymn hooks and rising,
and then seem abashed Into silence by
the sound of their own voices.
Pipe Joints of Rubber
One of the most remarkable recent
applications of rubber Is in the manu-
facture in England of flexible pipe
Joints. These rubber joints, says Pop-
ular Science Monthly, are being used
for pipes carrying water, gas and oil,
their chemical resistant, properties giv-
ing them special advantages.

Constipation!
How to Keep
Bowels Regular
To Dr. W. B. Caldwell, of Monti-
cello, III., n practicing physician for 47
years, it seemed cruel that so many
constipated men, women, children, nnd
particularly old folks, had to be kept
constantly "stirred up" nnd half sick
by taking cathartic pills, tablets, salts,
calomel and nasty oils.
While he knew that constipation
was the cause of nearly all headaches,
biliousness. Indigestion and stomach
misery, he did not believe that a
sickening "purge" or "physic" was
necessary.
In Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin he
discovered n laxative which helps to
establish natural bowel "regularity"
even for those chronically constipated.
Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin not only
causes a gentle, easy bowel movement
but, best of all, it never gripes, sick-
ens, or upsets the system. Besides, It
Is absolutely harmless, and so pleasant
that even a cross, feverish, bilious,
sick child gladly takes it.

store that sells medicine or write
