Miss Marina Phillips, Profes-
sor of Elementary Education in
the East Texas State Teachers
Gollege, Commerce, spent two
dayB and a half last week in-
specting some of the county
schools. She visited thirteen
schools, observing the teaching,
buildings and equipment. She
was representing the State Sur-
vey Commission. We tried to
show foer tbe schools as they act
tially are. We are expecting
.good from this survey.
Some of the schools are clos-
ing out short of the estimate
made by the inspector. All the
state aid applications were made
on a basis of thirteen dollars
percapita appointment, with the
understanding that, if it should
be less it would be adjusted by
the department. Perhaps this
accounts for the shortage in some
of the schools.
If you desire to take the April
examination, you must register
by the 20th of March.
Let eyery district hold a trus-
tee election April 5.
We ate sending out term re-
port^. book reports and requisi-
tions to the head of the various
schools iu the county. These
must be presented with your
registers before last mouths
vouchers may be approved.
Ceusus reports must be turn
ed in to this office before the
first of April. See that every
child is taken.
Send to this office for applica-
tions for transfers. Transfers
must be filed before the first of
August.
Remember the dates of tbe
meetiug of tbe County Inter
scholastic Leagues. March li
and 15 for colored; March 22nd
for whites.
Most of tbe common school
districts are trying for increased
taxes for local maintainance of
schools. Hughes Springs has a
bond issue on-for a high school
building.
