changed the time of their meet-
ing from Monday afternoon in
their homes to Weduesday af-
ternoon at 3 o'clock at the
Methodist church. All members

District Conference.
The Texarkana District Con-
ference of the Methodist Church
South convened with the Linden
Church Thursday the 25th and
continued through the 26th.
The opening service of the Con-
ference was the preaching service
Wednesday night, Rev, Ball, Pas-
tor of the Daingerfield church,
preached the opening sermon,
being a great spiritual r lessage.
The Conference proper opened at
9 o'clock a. m. on Thursday with
Rev. L. L. Lloyd, Presiding El-
der in the chair. Rev. Lloyd is
a master hand in turning off bu
siness, in this way much valua-
ble time was saved. The reports
of the Pastors and Lay Delegates
denote good progress in the Dis-
trict.
About three hundred were in
attendance on the Conference.
People who attended lrom out of
the District were, Rev. Walter
Mills, Presiding Elder of Beau-
mont District, Rev. Hotchkiss
from Hounton representing hosj
pital interest, Rev. Gray from
Waco, representing orphanage,
Rev. F. E. Few, representing
Southern Methodist University,
Dr. Stanton, representing the
Lon Morris College at Jackson-
ville.
Sam L. Ilendersou was re elect-
ed Lay leader.
Rev. Willi*, Presiding Elder of
Tyler District dropped in as a
visitor. Mrs. Ho-oton of Pitts-
burg, representing the Womens
work, Rev. Cole, representing
the Christian Advocate.
The preaching throughout the
Conference was done by Dr. Mills,
Cook and Cole. These men
brought great messazes, filled
with love, life and service.
The Conference was loud in its
praise of Linden's entertainment
and frospfttflity. Resolutions of
thanks were passed thanking
Rev. L. F. Maedgen, Pastor host,
and the Women Missionary .Soci-
ety, together with the entire City
of Linden for their untiring ef-
forts in making this one of the
best Conferences ever held in the
District. The Conference voted
to hold Conference of 1930 with
Hardy Memorial Cburcb fesar-

Banquet at Marshall.
Tuesday night April 23rd the
Chamber of Commerce of Mar
shall celebrated its tenth aunual
Banquet. ,

Hardy Chesser, T. F. Glover, and
S. L. Henderson attended from
Linden.
This Banquet was an elaborate
affair, a wonderful program was
rendered consist ing of music and
speaking bv out of town talent.
Among the makers of music were
the Stamps Quartetts, the Muni-
cipal Band of Loagview and ma-
ny others. Our otfn Freddie
Martin was on the program and
rendered his part so well that the
appiafl-e continued until Krwl re
turned to platform and rendered
another selection.
Plates were provided for 2.000
and all were tilled. The Cham-
ber of Commerce of Marshall led
by Bryan Blaiock has in ten
years grown to be one of ,' lnr-
shalls big business assets, having
been the means of locating trany
big projects in Marshall.
Prof. Lee of the University of
Oklahoma was the principle
speaker of the evening, his sub
ject was handled in a masterful
way. Mr. Lee fs a wonderful en
tertainer and stressed co opera,
tion as a means of success.
This Banquet is an annual
etent and it was announced that
next year the New Hotel of Mar-
shall would entertain the gath-
ering at its own expense in ap-
prestation of the help given them
in the erect ion cf the Hotel by
the Chamber of Commerce.
