An electrlct power and light plant
has been completed In LIUlefield and
a street lighting system haa beou In-
stalled.
Plans are complete and work will
begin at once on laying a submarine
telephone cable betweoa Galveston
and Virginia Point.
It Is expected that the electric

Bellmead will be completed and in
operation by January 1.
Fire of undetermined origin destroy-
ed the plant of the Carpenter Gin Com-
pany at Carpenter, in Wilson County.
Loss was estimated at $30,000.
Arrangements are being made for
construction of electric transmission
lines to several points in Grimes Coun-
ty, a franchise having boen granted
tor such service.

were bought by a Cincinnati (Ohio)
firm at par and accrued interest. The
amount of the bonds is $35,000, which
amount will put the town's sewer sys-
tem in first class shape.
Stringent regulations for certifying
and registering cotton seed breeders
and their product are to be promul-
gated by the new state board of plant
broader examiners, meeting at Austin
December 9, according to J. M. Del
Cur to, secretary.

Electric transmission lines between
large generating stations in an area
of more than 60,000 square miles in
Central Texas are now intercon-
nected and serve most of the custo-
mers of the electric power and light
companies in that territory, says the
Texas Public Sorvlce information
bureau.
A Boston company has contracted
tor approximately 500,000 pounds of
spring, 12-months wool, through their
buyer at Lampasas. This contract will
take the product of Lampasas, Burnett,
Coryell, Mills and probably San Saba
and Llano Counties, and means the
distribution of over $200,000 in these
counties. The contract price ia 50
cents a pound.
The strength of the Texas National
Guard at the end of the fiscal year
was 8096 men, of whom 608 were of-
ficers and 7561 were enlisted men.
General George C. Rickards, chief of
the militia, announced in his annual
report, which was sent to Secretary
of War Weeks Saturday. Only three
states had a larger National Guard
organization than Texas. They were
New York with 21,506; Pennsylvania,
with 12,134, and Minnesota, with K.894
men.
The state highway department has
a crew of road workers on the stretch
between Bastrop and Smlthville, grad-
ing and filling up the holes Accord
