We wandered around the
countryside the other
night and came home
agreed that it was difficult
to tell whether our area
was prettier at night or
in the daytime. T here are
dozens and dozens of fine
country homes dotting
every landscape in Wylie.
On a daylight drive you
observe their landscaped
lots, in some instances
their trees and creeks,
and always appreciate
their color schemes in the
use of brick, trim, etc.
But at night, and espe-
cially at this Christmas
season, one is impressed
with the lighting and other
decorations which go to
make up a completely
delightful scene. Take a
drive one of these clear,
crisp evenings and you,
too, will be amazed at
how many homes in the
country nave "gone all
out" to make their places
attractive and inviting.
What a fine time to
remember one's church!
The Christmas season
presents an opportunity
for most of us to get too
busy and have a tendency
to overlook making an
"extra" contribution to
our church's program.
Let's see that this doesn't
happen. This year take
your church into consi-
deration when doing your
giving. You'll be happier
for it throughout the com-
ing year.
The Dallas Area Tuber-
culosis Association's
Christmas Seal campaign
reached 60 per cent of its
$201100(100 goal this week.
Campaign Chairman
Mickey Mantle announced
fthe contributions to the
iWi9 campaign have
Veached $12 1,486.09
from the residents of the
10 counties served by
DATA. These figures
show an increase of
$5,687.86 over last year's
figures.
A number of officials of
the North Texas Munici-
pal W 't r District were
In New 'ork earlier this
week on uusiness relative
to a proposed bond sale
due in January. The new
financing will be required
for major expansion plans
of the district. The group
returned home Tuesday
night.
Wylie's 17th annual invi-
tational basketball tour-
nament missed getting to
use the new gymnasium by
about 60 days. The new
facility is shaping up
nicely, however, ana will
be a fine new addition
when completed. In fact,
the local teams should be
able to play a few of their
remaining games in the
new gym.
Jack Neathery, our good
friend of long standing,
dropped by last week for
a visit and we were sur-
prised and delighted. Jack
at one time was on the
staff of the late Speaker
Sam Rayburn In Washing-
ton. He served for years
In the State Department
and also with the Depart-
ment of Commerce, but
now is retired.
D"i\
with hundreds of friends
of Fred Pool on Dec. 4
for his big retirement
party in l.ongview. And
those friends came from
far and near to pay honor
and tribute to this out-
standing Hast Texan, t- red
is retiring from the post
of Hxecurive Vice Presi-
dent of the East Texas
Chamber of Commerce as
of Jan. 1, and the affair
was a way of saying thanks
for a fine job across the
past several years. We
came to know him in that
post some 12 to 14 years
ago and across these
years have been closely
associated with him in
many East Texas pro-
jects. We know him to be
an outstanding adminis-
trator with exceptional
ability in many fields. We
appreciate him for all
that, but most of a I
cherish his personal
friendship which con-
tinues to mean much to us.
It's a friendship like his
which make life more
enjoyable and fuller and
the Christmas season
more meaningful.
Reduce Your
Taxes With
Good Records
Good records can save
tax dollars at income tax
filing time for Northern
Texas taxpayers.
Ellis Campbell, Jr., Dis-
trict Director of Internal
Revenue in Northern
Texas, said good records
help you get all the deduc-
tions ana credits you are
entitled to.
A good system for keep-
ing records is to label
envelopes or folders
according to the types of
income and deductions you
have, Mr. Campbell said.
Bills and receipts should
be put in the appropriate
folder as they are paid.
Taxpayers who itemize
their deductions on Form
1040 must have available
cancelled checks,
receipts, statements, and
other data to support the
claimed deductions.
Mr. Campbell said that,
in addition to saving tax
dollars, good recordkeep-
ing makes preparation of
the tax return a much
easier task.
