Q: What happens if I
tooth, or teeth?
A: While more and more Americans
are keeping all their teeth, tooth loss
still happens and there are conse-
quences none of which are good.
I iist of all, teeth support each
other, like good neighbors. When on
tooth is lost, the teeth next to the
vacated spot begin to shift, this can
lead to problems with chewing and
cleaning. Once remaining teeth
begin to tilt, tood can get trapped in
gaps between the teeth and the gum.
l itis can contribute to both tooth
decay and periodontal, or gum. dis-
ease. When teeth are lost, the pres-
sure of chewing is thrown oil' and
can make eating dillicult. Teeth bear-
ing an inordinate amount of pres-
sure in the new chewing pattern may
shift and eventually loosen. You may
also notice a change in the sound of
words you speak. If you do lose a
tooth, your dentist can advise you
on whether a bridge an artificial
tooth fastened to neighboring teeth
or an implant may be right for you.
I he best advice, though, is to keep
you natural teeth through a regimen
of good oral hygiene and regular
visits to your dentist.

Band marches through competition
On Oct. 8. the Sachse Mustang
Band defended their 2004 title at
the "DeSoto Classic Marching
Contest" and marched away with
top honors again.
The band earned First Place
Best in Class AAAA in preliminary
competitions and moved on to
finals competition sitting in first
place.
After their finals performance,
ihe Sachse Mustang Band earned
First Place - Best of Show Award
and were named Grand Champions
for the entire competition.
Sachse also earned awards for
Outstanding Auxiliary (Color
Guard). Outstanding General
Effect. Outstanding Music
Presentation and Outstanding
Marching.
"We would like to congratulate
the Sachse drum majors, band sfti-
dents, color guard, and the Saclye
band directors, Allen Goodwin, Art
Ruangtip. Scott Zender. and T.J.
Jordon for an outstanding job."
said Connie Chilcote. Sachse Band
Booster Club vice president.
On Oct. I. the Sachse Mustang
Band competed in the Carrollton
Tournament of Champions
Marching Contest.
After earning a fourth place fin-
ish in the preliminaries and the
bandmoved onto finals competition
against local bands. Wylie and
Rowlett.
After their finals performance,
the Sachse Mustang Band earned
second place honors. Wylie and
Rowlett placed fourth and fifth,
respectively.
Sachse also earned awards for
Best Overall General Effect, first
place for Outstanding Drum
Majors and second plhce for CSIor
Guard.
The purpose of contests are to
prepare the bands for their UIL
Competition in late October. Each
year high school bands everywhere
fight to earn a Division I rating tor
their schools. Normally, the top
four or fivebands would head to a
State Competition held in San
Antonio each year. This year is a
non-state year for Class 5A
schools. With Sachse now a 5A
school, they would not compete for
state finalist until next year.
Last year during their very first
5A competition they placed in the
top 10 again coming in at ninth.
Sachse was the first GISD high
school to place in the top 10 at a 5A
level after only being open for
three years.
The band performs every week
at Sachse Musiang football games
find at other community events
throughout the school, yc/ir. ,
