Thank the early American Puri-
tan pioneers for your Christmas
turkey and cranberries. It was
they who discovered what could
be dons to nice, fat turkey and
cnnbtries to make a delicious
December 25th feast. Since then
turkey an j cranberries have been
the bads of the American Christ-
. mas dinner. Santa Claus, holly,
> '
mistletoe and the custom of
giving gifts were also brought
from the Puritan homeland.

Christmas dinner tables are load-
ed with food • and old supersti-
tions, too. If a guest refuses mince
pie, there's bad luck in store for
him; eat apples at midnight for
good health; be sure to have plum
pudding lest you lose a friend
during the year. 1 he feeding of
animals, sending cards, singing
carols and paying Christmas gifts
ire all in superstitious tradition of
things to do for good luck.
New Chairs Added
To Jury Box in
District Court
New chairs have been installed
in the jury box in the district
court room in McKinney, ac-
cording to an announcement
made this week by District Judge
W. C. Dowdy. The new chairs
are of the swivel type, made of
walnut. Green leather padded
bottoms will greatly add to the
comfort of jurors.
The purihas1' was made by Die
Commissioners Court with de-
linquent tax money. It was also
announced that plans are being
made to add extra units of bath-
room facilities to the jury room
and to eqtiipt. it with hot water.
These improvements will be
welcome news to the local citi-
zens who are called on for jury
service from time to time and
those responsible for the change
are due a vote of thanks.

Enter Tournament
The Wylie Pirates Basketball
{earn, Coached by Jack Murray,
entered the Frisco Invitation
Tournament at Frisco. The local
boys, playing some stiff com-
petition, were able to remain in
the tournament as far as the
final consolation bracket. It was
there that they met the Frisco
Coons and after a very slow
start were never able to catch
up in the last half. Frisco won
by score of 42-28.
In the second half the local
lads came out with a fast break
and with James Caton as lead
man they were able to melt
Frisco's large half time lead but
were never able to catch up.
Although the Pirates are not
playing a smooth game as yet,
they show a lot of possibilities
as they will gain experience in
the coming games. Coach Murray
feels that the new gym of the
Birmin^iam High School will
help the boys greatly as they
do not have adequate facilities
at this Time for practice.
