Monday Holiday To Signal
End Of Vacation Season

Next Monday, September 6,
will mark the unofficial end of
the summer vacation season
as Wylieites join with the na-
tiojn in observing the tradition-
al Labor Day holiday.
Wylie stores will be closed
for the day, one of the annual
holidays observed by local mer-
chants. Local schools, after an
August 30 start, will take the
day off, and also observing the
occasion will be the Wylie
Post Office, First State Bank,
Johnston, Inc., and other in-
dustrial and commercial firms
in the area.
Most vacationers will have
returned for fall duties, schools
across the state either have al-
ready opened or will do so with-
in the next week, football is in
the air, harvest of fall crops
is underway, and generally the

Mr. & Mrs. Lee Espinosa Announce
Engagement of Their Daughter, Ruth
Mr. & Mrs. Lee Espinosa, Route 2, Garland, announce
the engagement of their daughter, Ruth, to Jimmie D.
Ratteree of Rockwall Parents of the groom-elect are
Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ratteree of Route 1, Rockwall. The
couple will exchange vows at the Shiloh Baptist
Church, Wylie, on October 9th.

Gov. Connally To Dedicate Municipal
Building In Pano September 3
Mr. and Mrs, W. W. Cupps
of Grand Prairie visited Sun-
day with Mrs. Lizzie Willing-
ham, Mr. and Mrs. Faye Moore
and Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Huddles-
ton.

Gov. John Connally will visit
Piano from 2-4 p.m. Septem-
ber 3 to dedicate the town's
new Municipal Building. For-
mal dedication ceremonies are
set for 3 p.m.
Connally will be. in Piano on-
ly a few hours. His wife is
not expected to accompany
him.
Dedication ceremonies will
be held on a speaker's plat-
form in front of the new $172,
000. Municipal Building on
Fifteenth St. in downtown Pia-
no. Five blocks of Fifteenth St.
will be closed to traffic for the
Governor's entry and the de-
dication ceremonies. All down-
town businesses will be closed.
The Municipal Building was
completed in late June of this
year, but dedication was post-
poned awaiting the Governor's
visit.
Piano businessman David
McCall is in charge of plans
for Connally's appearance in
AUTHORIZED DEALER

Piano and is chariman of a
Chamber of Commerce down-
town renewal committee work-
ing to beautify Piano for the
dedication date.
McCall visited the Gover-
nor's staff in Austin August 21,
to complete arrangements for
the Piano visit.
Invitations to the dedication
ceremonies are being issued to
city and Chamber of Com-
merce officials in the Piano
area. The ceremony is open to
anyone wishing to attend.
* Headquarters for newsmen
covering the Governor's speech
will be set up in the Piano
Star - Courier office, two blocks
away from the Municipal
Building. All other Piano Busi-
nesses will close during Con-
nally's appearance.
The Governor is expected to
enter Piano from North Cen-
tral Expressway, proceeding
down Fifteenth St.
Labor Day weekend signals llic
end of the summer season and
marks the transition into fail.
Recreation seekers will have
one final summer fling and con-
cessionaries at Lake Lavon this
week were girding for a busy
weekend. Campers were expect-
ed to begin arriving late Fri-
day afternoon for their week
end outings, and the long week-
end is expected to attract thou-
sands to the lake's shores.
Picnickers, boaters, fisher-
men and water skierts will
crowd facilities from Saturday
through late Monday. Repoils
of good fishing the past few
days with the coming of cooler
weather is expected to draw
larger than usual crowds of
fishermen.
Traffic is expected to be
heavy on area roads and mo-
torists are advised to use ex-
treme caution over the week-
end.
Business will return to nor-
mal Tuesday morning as stu-
dents, teachers, laborers and
business personnel return from
the three-day merrymaking to
settle down for the long fall
grind.
