Friday Night
In preparation for their
first game tomorrow
night with Caddo Mills
coach Eddie Geren's
Community Braves have
been putting in long
hours and have played
a scrimmage game with
Quinlan. So far coach
new to the job
ear, is very
y
pleased with his charges.
The game will be played
at Community.
In the game with Quinlan
the Braves came out on
top 6-2, using the one
point system of scoring
Counting it the other way,
they won 36-12. "Our
passing needs some
polish and we have some
rough spots to smooth
out, ' said the new coach.
"But we were real
pleased with the results
of the game," he
continued.
There was a bad note
to the game, however,
as Keith Neel and Larry
Strickland, expected to
be the starting ends were
injured. It is not known
at this point just how
serious the injuries are
or when the boys will be
able to return to the
line-up. "It couldn't
have gone better if I
had planned it," he
said, but we sure didn't
plan on those Injuries."
Backs Ronnie Tiner and
Ronnie Gracy looked
good on offense. Ronnie
Hargrave, David Rea-
gan, Billy Coleman and
Bill Shewbirt all stood
out defensively. Coach
Geren was very high in
his praise for Shewbirt
who is playing his first
year. ''He has really
come along," said the
coach.
"Caddo Mills is the team
to beaV' remarked the
coach. Floyd Neal, a 9.8
man in track togs and
almost as fast in pads,
is the prime offensive
spark for Caddo. "Our
game plan is to contain
Neal. Turn him inside
where seven boys will
have a shot at him,"
said the coach. "If he
$ets outside only two
Doys get a crack at him"
'If we can take Caddo
Mills we will have a fair
chance, but it's really
a little early to say for
sure yet." Neal was the
third fastest boy in the
state last year in class
"B". Caddo also has
a top passing game with
Steve Farr doing the
throwing.
Coach Geren summed it
up this was, "If we can
control the ball and get
the right breaks, well
be in the game all the
way."
