before he could throw on the brakes 3pr.ts of the country'
and slow down.
This was the funny part. The seri-
ous part was that burglars unknown
parties of course as they usually are.
in such cases had actually entered the
Scrimgeour place of business at 401
South Broadway turned the big safe
on its back and then with some kind
of instrument knocked or prized the
combination off after which they ma-
nipulated the tumblers in such way as
to soon open the safe. .They alsti
prized the drawer of the cash regis-
ter open and got a few dimes and
nickels hut not enough to take thorn
lo the jumping off place should t':ey
lecide to go there. Mr. Scrfmgeour
thinks there must have bten several
men in the bunch because the safe
weighs 1500 "pounds at least and one
or two men cqld not have tipped it
on its side without leaving some sign
on the cement or concrete floor. Of
course tlie burglars left no clue.
Further down the street at the ga-
rage of the Cylinder Grinding Supply
Company the building occupied by
Sam Eakiri the' burglars broke In at
the front door and made an effort to
opeu the safe which defied their ef-
forts however and they left without
doing tny further damage.
Mr. Scrimgeour says thV. burglars
were at his plaqe of business between
11:30 last night and 6:30 tills morning
as this waatho closing and opening
time for the perldd mentioned.
