Isham A. Smith post American Le
gW of Brownwood in order that the
celebration of nrmistipo day may be
In keep ng with solemnity and dig-
nity of the. groat event wlilch it seek
to commemorate has sent a special
Invitation tothe present-national com-
mander Alvin Owsley and State
Commander Sherwood both of whom
are attending the national convention
in San Francisco to be in prownwoud
as the special guests of tho local post
on Monday "November 12th and take
part in the celebration of tho day.
The invitation was wired to Captain
R. 'Wright Armstrong and he has
delivered the' message to the officials
mentioned. An answer is expected
todav.
Under the rules and regulations of
the American Legion thc national offi
cers hold' only one term and so Col.
Owsley will not bo head of the legion
on armistice day. This however does
riot detract the least bit from the en
thusiasm in which Colonel Owslov Is
held by the leg'onnaires and people
of Brownwood. The same is true aV
to state commander Sherwood who
wlII be president nnUl next year and
the people of Brownwocdalso want
to greet him and hcati him in an ad-
dress the eanio as Colonel Owsley.
The local legion post is making ar-
rangements to nut on a very fine pro-
gram on November ISih as the 11th
falls on Sunday.

SHE WAS INDIGNANT
IT WAS EVIDENT SHE THOUGHT THE CREDIT MAN 'DIDN'T KNOW
"WHO SHE WAS BUT HE DID!
It happens frequently; the names and dates:and places vary but the situation
is usually identical. The following incident took place just the other day:
A certain prominent woman walked into the credit department of a local store.
She was indignant. Someone in that credit department had dunned 'her for an
overdue bill. True1 the bill was four months past due but she was Mrs. So-and-So
of the socially prominent So.-and-So.'s She was being dunned by a mere
credit man.
Now the credit man was much impressed. He was of the did school1 but he
had also taken the post-graduate course. He was fair and impartial the strict ar-
biter of his firm's credit accommodations. 1 ' -
What he told the lady made' her more indignant at first. But she finally saw
the light and paid the bill.
In these times credit men in Brownwood representing more than 1 74 lead-
ing firms and professional men look on all customers with the same eye. Mrs. So-and-So
must pay her bills on schedule time or be told in so many words that she
must. Let her permit it to drag for months and her credit will cease as quickly as
the credit of any other offender. . - .
Prominence in social or political circIesdoes not make one's" credit one whit
better or worse than that of another custqmewho may not desire to be or happen
to be "prominent."
None heed think that his business is so valuable to thc 174 members of this
association that they will be glad to carry them indefinitely. Slow pay is.not good
business; .none of our members want such business atfd none will haveit.
These are plain words. Possibly we are putting the proposition top' bluntly
-but the fact remains that "Slow Pay" will find her credit rather limited unless she
begins now to pay promptly and in full.
